1. Raise the vehicle and secure it from tipping over or sliding using jack stands.
2. Remove the wheels.
3. Insert the spring compressor VAG 1752/1 with the holder VAG 1752/16 into the coil spring. If necessary, insert the spring holder into the coils separately and only then screw it onto the spring remover. Do not damage the trapezoidal lever structure. You need to tighten 4 coils of the spring.
4. Pull the device until it stops (arrow) and remove the spring.
Be sure to pay attention to the correct fit of the coil spring in the holder (risk of accident!)
5. After removing the spring, you can proceed to dismantling the shock absorber. There is no need to remove the wheel housing.
6. Unscrew nut 1 and remove the shock absorber bolt (the picture shows the part without the cover). Then unscrew nuts 2 and remove the shock absorber.
There is no need to remove the wheel cover when unscrewing and removing the shock absorber
7. When installing the shock absorber, replace the bolts and self-locking nuts.
8. Tighten new nuts 2 to a torque of 35 Nm.
9. First tighten the lower shock absorber mount 1 to a torque of 20 Nm.
10. Install the spring.
11. When installing a new spring, make sure that the conical end is facing downwards. The color markings (arrow B) should be at the bottom. This pin must be inserted into the hole in the trapezoidal lever structure 2.
When installing a new spring, make sure that the tapered end is facing downwards
12. Turn the end of the spring so that it rests against the stop on the spring cushion (arrow A).
13. After this, insert the upper end of the spring into the upper spring cushion (not shown in the picture).
14. Loosen the spring. In this case, the upper cushion must be aligned with the hole in the body.
15. After installing the spring, tighten the lower shock absorber mount. To do this, place the car on its wheels and loosen the bolt connections. To bend the spring, press hard on the rear of the car several times. Tighten nut 1 to 160 Nm, then turn it another 90°.
