1. Raise the vehicle and secure it from tipping over or slipping with jack stands.
2. Remove wheels.
3. Insert spring compressor VAG 1752/1 with holder VAG 1752/16 into the coil spring. If necessary, insert the spring holder into the coils separately, and only then screw it to the spring remover. Be careful not to damage the trapezoidal lever structure. You need to tighten 4 turns of the spring.
4. Pull the fixture until it stops (arrow) and remove the spring.
Be sure to pay attention to the correct fit of the helical spring in the holder (risk of accident!)
5. After removing the spring, you can proceed to dismantle the shock absorber. The wheel cover does not need to be removed.
6. Turn away a nut 1 and pull out a bolt of the shock-absorber (the figure shows the part without the cover). Then turn out nuts 2 and take out the shock-absorber.
The wheel cover does not need to be removed when unscrewing and removing the shock absorber
7. When installing the shock absorber, replace the bolts and self-locking nuts.
8. Tighten new nuts 2 to 35 Nm.
9. Lower shock absorber mounting 1 first tighten to 20 Nm.
10. Install the spring.
11. When installing a new spring, make sure that the tapered end is pointing down. Color markings (arrow B) should be at the bottom. This spike must be inserted into the hole that is provided in the trapezoidal lever structure 2.
When installing a new spring, make sure that the tapered end points down
12. Turn the end of the spring so that it rests against the stop on the spring cushion (arrow A).
13. After that, insert the upper end of the spring into the upper spring pad (not shown in the figure).
14. Loosen the spring. In this case, the top cushion must be aligned with the opening in the body.
15. After installing the spring, tighten the lower shock absorber mount. To do this, put the car on wheels and loosen the bolted connections. To bend the suspension, press hard on the rear of the car several times. Tighten nut 1 to 160 Nm, then tighten it by another 90°.
