The helical spring is under high pressure (about four times the prestress). In this operation without a tensioner (V.A.G. 1752) not enough. Otherwise, after loosening the central locking screw, the parts of the spring may fly apart as in an explosion. Doing so can result in serious injury. If you are going to mount a new spring, when buying a new part, pay attention to the designation of the spring, it must be suitable for your car. You can determine which springs and shock absorbers are installed in your car by looking at the vehicle characteristics plate (is in the trunk), this information is also indicated in the service book.
1. Remove an amortization rack.
2. Using a suitable spring compressor, tension the spring. When doing this, make sure that the coils of the spring are securely gripped and that the tensioner does not slip off.
3. Remove the nut from the piston rod. In this case, it is necessary to create a counterholder using a hexagonal socket wrench.
4. Gradually loosen the spring and remove individual parts. If necessary, loosen the support plate with light blows with a plastic mallet, then remove it.
5. When installing new springs, make sure that the protective varnish is not damaged.
