Loosen the wheel hub nut.

Bring out the front of the car and shine the wheel.

Remove the brake caliper and the brake hose mounting bracket. Hang the caliper assembly with the pads to the body on a service hook so that the hose is not loaded.

Loosen the nut of bolt 1 (see photo) of the terminal connection and disconnect the ball joint of the suspension arm from the steering knuckle.

Loosen the nut of the ball joint pin of the steering rod and press the pin out of the steering arm of the suspension strut.

Loosen the nuts securing the anti-roll bar to the subframe and suspension arms and remove the anti-roll bar.

Unscrew the wheel hub nut.

Move the suspension arm down

Disconnect the wheel drive housing from the hub.

Loosen the nut securing the telescopic strut to the upper support, holding the shock absorber rod with a hex key. Remove the telescopic strut, supporting it from below.

Install the VW 140/5 spacer on the lower part of the telescopic strut.



Clamp the telescopic stand with its lower part in a vice with soft pads.

Install the VW 340 spring compressor onto the telescopic strut spring.

Compress the spring slightly, then loosen the nut on the shock absorber rod and slowly release the spring.

Remove the spring from the telescopic strut.

Clamp the telescopic strut in a vice with soft pads and unscrew the shock absorber housing nut with a special VW 40 201 A key.

Remove the shock absorber from the strut housing.

The shock absorber and suspension spring are installed in the reverse order of removal, observing the tightening torques of the threaded connections. In this case, replace the ball joint of the suspension arm and the bolt for attaching it to the steering knuckle with new ones and install the bolt with the head in the direction of vehicle movement; tighten the hub nut completely, placing the car on its wheels.
