Due to the complexity of the AT design, it is advisable to diagnose its faults and repair its components in a specialized auto service workshop.
71. General problems associated with the operation of the switching mechanism
1. The following can be attributed to failures associated with a malfunction of the shift drive:
- engine starting is possible in transmission positions other than "P" and "N";
- the A T position indicator readings differ from the actual selected mode;
- the vehicle is moving with the automatic transmission in position "P" or "N";
- gears shift with difficulty or randomly.
72. The automatic transmission slips, shifts with difficulty, makes extraneous noises, or does not provide vehicle movement when set to one of the front or reverse gears
1. There are many possible causes for the problems listed, but only one of them falls within the competence of an amateur mechanic - incorrect ATF level.
2. Before driving the car to the auto service workshop, check the level and condition of the ATF. If necessary, make the appropriate adjustments, or change the ATF together with the filter - if the corrections made did not lead to the correction of the situation, contact the auto service specialists for help.
73. There are transmission fluid leaks
1. ATF is dark red in color. Its leaks should not be confused with engine oil, which can be carried to the transmission housing by the oncoming air flow.
2. To identify and localize the source of the leak, first remove all traces of dirt and grease from the AT boat. Use a suitable degreaser and/or steam clean. Then take the vehicle for a short drive at low speed (so that traces of the leak are not carried away by the oncoming flow far from its source). Stop, jack up the car and visually inspect to determine the sources of the leaks. Most often, these are:
- aT oil pan, - tighten the mounting bolts and/or replace the oil pan gasket;
- aTF dipstick guide tube - replace the rubber seal where the tube enters the transmission housing;
- plugs: Tighten the corresponding plug/replace the sealing washer.
- aTF lines - tighten fittings/replace defective tubes;
- vent tube - the transmission is overfilled and/or moisture has entered it.
74. ATF is brown in color and/or smells burnt
1. ATF level is insufficient.
75. The "kickdown" mode does not turn on when the gas pedal is fully pressed
1. The ATF level has dropped.
2. The engine management system is faulty.
3. The D/V for activating the "kickdown" mode is faulty, or its wiring is damaged.
4. The adjustment of the shift drive is disturbed.
76. The engine does not start in any position of the selector lever, or starts in positions other than "P" and "N"
1. The D/V trigger resolution adjustment is broken.
2. The engine control system is not functioning properly.
3. The adjustment of the shift drive is disturbed.
77. The transmission slips, gear shifting is accompanied by jerks or increased noise. The car does not move when the "D" or "R" modes are engaged
1. The ATF level has dropped.
2. The AT selector lever position sensor is faulty, or its wiring is damaged.
3. The engine control system is not functioning properly.
