General information

1. The wrath belt drives the generator, cooling system pump, viskomuftu fan and power steering pump (GUR). If an air conditioner is installed, the second belt from the crankshaft pulley drives the air conditioner compressor. Both belts are of the V - shaped type (Fig. 6.1).

1. The wrath belt drives the generator, cooling system pump, viskomuftu fan and power steering pump…

2. The main belt tension is automatic, with a spring-loaded roller. If air conditioning is provided, the belt tension is carried out with a torque wrench.

3. To remove the drive belts, apply the handbrake, raise the front of the vehicle and install safety supports. Remove the lower powertrain protective cover.

Removal

4. If the belt is to be installed backwards, mark it in the direction of rotation.

5. Although not strictly necessary, access can be improved by sliding the entire front panel back (together with the hood lock bracket assembly) forward from the engine as far as possible. Do not disconnect the radiator hoses or electrical wiring. To do this, first remove the front bumper as described in chapter 11, unscrew the three quick-release clips from the noise-insulating panel, dismantle the air duct between the lock bracket and the air filter. To the left of the radiator, disconnect the wiring from the fasteners. Unscrew the bolts securing the lock bracket and the body side member, unscrew the upper bolts that are behind the headlights. Together with an assistant, move the entire unit as far away from the car as possible. Audi mechanics use special brackets for this, however, you can make homemade ones from pieces of threaded rod, screwing them into the side members.

6. On models with air conditioning, loosen the tensioner bolts and move the pulley up to loosen the belt. Pull the belt off the crankshaft pulley, compressor pulley and tensioner pulley.

7. To remove the main belt, first mark its routing on the pulleys to install it back correctly. Particularly mark the routing of the belt around the viscous coupling pulley. The automatic tensioner can be released with a 15 mm open-end wrench on the central bolt. Turn the bolt counterclockwise to release the tension. Remove the belt from the tensioner, alternator, viscous coupling. power steering pump and crankshaft pulleys.

Note: The bolt has a left-hand thread, so turning it counterclockwise will not loosen it. Release the tensioner after removing the belt.

Installation

8. Place the belt on the alternator pulley, fan viscous coupling, power steering pump and crankshaft pulleys. Make sure that all belt grooves match the pulley grooves. Unscrew the tensioner counterclockwise and place the belt on the pulley, then release the tensioner.

9. On models with no air conditioning, place the belt on the compressor and crankshaft pulleys, aligning the belt grooves with the pulley grooves. Move the tensioner down and place the belt on its pulley, aligning the grooves with the grooves. Tighten the belt by applying a force of 25 Nm to the hexagon on the tensioner housing. Hold this torque until the adjusting and axle bolts are tightened.
