Warning: Before starting the procedure, read the warnings in chapter 12 regarding the components of the SRS system (airbags).
Withdrawal
1. Set the wheel to the straight ahead position.
Attention! Make sure that during the entire procedure the wheels are set in a straight-ahead position, otherwise the installation of the contact group of the airbag will fail, leading to a malfunction in the SRS system.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Note: If your radio has a secret code, make sure you know it before disconnecting the battery. If in doubt, seek advice from the dinar.
3. Remove the driver's airbag as described in chapter 12.
4. Remove the steering wheel as described in paragraph 14.
Attention! Before disconnecting SRS components (airbags) read the warnings in chapter 12.
5. Under a steering column turn away screws of fastening and remove the top and lower overlays of a steering column.
6. Loosen the screws and detach the steering column switch combination as described in chapter 12.
7. Disconnect the wiring clamps and release it from the steering column.
8. Remove from the driver's side under the front panel the glove box, the panel covering the pedal assembly, and the steering column pad at the motor shield.
9. Disconnect the wiring connector from the ignition switch as described in paragraph 16.
10. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect the selector lock cable from the ignition switch. To do this, first move the selector lever to position "R", insert the ignition key and turn it to the first position (On). After that, slightly lift the locking lever at the rear of the ignition switch and disconnect the cable from the housing.
11. Remove the remaining overlays under the front panel that prevent access to the base of the steering column.
12. Tie the top and bottom sections of the column with wire. This is necessary so that they do not fall apart when the column is removed from the steering shaft (pic. 15.12).
Warning: When removing the steering column from the steering gear, do not allow it to be separated into sections - the alignment of the internal components will be disturbed.
13. Turn away a nut of a coupling bolt of a collar of fastening of the hinge to a shaft of the steering mechanism. Loosen the bolt half a turn and remove it from the clamp (pic. 15.13).
14. Pull off the hinge of a steering column of a shaft of a steering and take away it aside.
15. Turn away four bolts of fastening of a steering column and remove it from the car (pic. 15.15).
16. Check for wear on all dispenser components. If the column is damaged, it is replaced with a solid assembly.
17. If necessary, remove the steering lock/ignition switch as described in paragraph 16.
Installation
18. Installation is the reverse procedure. Pay attention to the following.
19. Be convinced of presence of a plastic cap on an axial bolt protruding to the left of a steering column. If the cap is lost, wrap the bolt with electrical tape to prevent damage to the wiring.
20. If necessary, install the ignition switch/steering column lock as described in paragraph 16.
21. Wrap the top bolts of fastening of a steering column, but yet do not tighten them.
22. Insert the tie bolt of the collar of the column hinge to the steering shaft and fix it by turning it half a turn counterclockwise. Install the nut and tighten to the specified torque.
23. Tighten the four upper steering column mounting bolts to the prescribed torque.
24. Remove the wire fastening sections of a steering column.
25. On models with automatic transmission, to install the selector locking cable, move its lever to position "R", turn the ignition key to the ''On' position". Insert the end of the cable into the rear ignition switch and push it until it stops and clicks into place (a click should be heard). Check cable operation as follows:
- (1) Move lever out of position "R" to any other must be possible only when the ignition key is in the "Op"
- (2) The ignition key can only be removed in position "Off" and selector lever position "R".
26. Establish the lower panels under the front panel and overlays of a steering column.
27. Install the steering column switches as described in chapter 12.
28. Install the steering wheel as described in paragraph 14.
29. Install the driver's airbag as described in chapter 12.
30. As a precaution against accidental deployment of the airbag, asked everyone to leave the car before connecting the battery.
31. Finally, make sure the steering is working properly.
