Warning: Before starting the procedure, read the warning in chapter 12 regarding SRS system components (airbags).
Removal
1. Remove the airbag (paying attention to the warnings), as described in chapter 12.
2. Set the wheels to the straight-ahead position and secure the steering column lock.
3. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the upper cover from the steering column.
4. Locate the airbag contact group wiring connector and disconnect it (Fig. 14.4). On models with a multifunction steering wheel, disconnect the wiring connector from the switch and heating element.

5. Loosen the nut or bolt (what is provided) steering wheel mounts and mark the wheel installation relative to the shaft (Fig. 14.5). Discard the bolt/nut; new ones are required for installation.

6. Remove the steering wheel from the shaft splines, being careful not to damage the wiring of the contact group. When removing the steering wheel, do not rotate the contact group. Sew it with tape to prevent it from moving (fig. 14.16, a, b).

Installation
7. Installation is the reverse procedure. Please note the following (Fig. 14.7):
- a) Align the steering wheel marks with the steering shaft.
- b) Tighten the new mounting bolt/nut to the specified torque.
- c) Install the airbag as described in chapter 12.
