Note: Before performing the following operations, read the warnings in paragraph 22.
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery as described in paragraph 1.
Driver airbag
Note: Reinstallation will require new mounting screws.
2. If it is required to improve access, turn away screws of fastening and remove the top and bottom overlays of a steering column.
3. Remove the two head screws "under the hexagon" from the back of the steering wheel, turning it if necessary.
4. Return the steering wheel to the straight ahead position of the vehicle and carefully remove the airbag assembly from the steering wheel by disconnecting the connector (s) wiring at the back of the unit. Do not drop or strike the unit, and store with the pad facing up.
5. When installing, connect the wiring, install the unit on the steering wheel without pinching the wiring. Install new mounting screws and tighten them securely, turn on the ignition and only then connect the battery.
Passenger airbag
6. Remove the glove box as described in chapter 11. .
7 Locate the airbag wiring connector on the left side of the block. Remove the connector from the bracket and disconnect it.
8. Remove the mounting screws and first remove the bottom pair, then the side pair of pillow mounting brackets.
9. Turn away screws of fastening and remove a pillow from the front panel. The pillow must not be dropped or knocked on it; it is necessary to store the pillow with the lining up.
10. Installation - reverse procedure. Install two new screws securing the pad to the front panel, attach the connector, and install it into the mounting bracket.
11. Make sure that no one is in the cabin. Turn on the ignition, and only then connect the battery.
Contact block system
12. Set wheels to straight ahead. Remove the steering wheel as described in chapter 10.
13. Without rotating the contact group (block), unscrew the fastening screws, remove it from the steering wheel. On some models, the slip ring of the block is installed in the front surface of the steering column switch block; press the latches to release the contact block from the steering column switches.
14. At installation establish the block on a steering wheel and tighten screws of fastening. On models with a contact block attached to the steering column switch, push the contact block evenly into place until the latches click into place. If installing a new unit, cut off the clamps to prevent accidental turning of the unit.
15. Install the steering wheel - see chapter 10.
