Note: Before performing the following operations, read the warnings contained in paragraph 22.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable as described in paragraph 1.
Driver's airbag
Note: Reinstallation will require new mounting screws.
2. If better access is required, loosen the mounting screws and remove the upper and lower steering column covers.
3. Remove the two Allen-head screws from the back of the steering wheel, rotating it if necessary.
4. Return the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and carefully remove the airbag assembly from the steering wheel by disconnecting the wiring connector at the back of the unit. Do not drop or hit the unit and store it with the trim facing up.
5. When installing, connect the wiring, install the unit on the steering wheel without pinching the wiring. Install new mounting screws and tighten them securely, turn on the ignition and only then connect the battery.
Passenger airbag
6. Remove the glove box as described in chapter 11. .
7 Locate the airbag wiring connector on the left side of the unit. Pull the connector out of the bracket and disconnect it.
8. Loosen the mounting screws and remove first the lower pair, then the side pair of cushion mounting brackets.
9. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the cushion from the front panel. The cushion must not be dropped or hit, and must be stored with the pad facing up.
10. Installation - reverse procedure. Tighten two new screws securing the cushion to the front panel, attach the connector and install it into the mounting bracket.
11. Make sure there is no one in the car. Turn on the ignition and only then connect the battery.
Contact block of the system
12. Set the wheels to the straight-ahead position. Remove the steering wheel as described in chapter 10.
13. Without rotating the contact group (block), unscrew the mounting screws, remove it from the steering wheel. On some models, the block's slip ring is installed in the front surface of the steering column switch block; press the latches to release the contact block from the steering column switches.
14. When installing, place the unit on the steering wheel and tighten the mounting screws. On models with a contact block secured to the steering column switch, press the contact block evenly into place until the clips snap into place. If you are installing a new unit, cut off the clamps that prevent the unit from accidentally turning.
15. Install the steering wheel - see chapter 10.
