Each engine model of AUDI 80 cars has a different design of the exhaust system from other models. In addition, there are fundamental differences in the exhaust systems installed on front-wheel drive models and quattro models.

The exhaust manifold of petrol engines is mounted on the cylinder head. In diesel engines, the exhaust manifold is attached to the turbocharger. The exhaust manifold is connected to the exhaust manifold, which has its own characteristics inherent in the corresponding engine type. In the petrol four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 66 kW and in both diesel engines, the exhaust pipe is single. In the four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 85 kW, as well as in the five-cylinder engine, the exhaust pipe is doubled, and then turns into a single one. The exhaust pipe of six-cylinder engines has a completely different design. Each row of cylinders has its own exhaust pipe with a catalytic converter.

All engines are equipped with a catalytic converter, from which a small pipe runs, connecting the intake pipe and the catalytic converter to the main muffler. In six-cylinder engines, two short connecting pipes lead to the main muffler: one from each intake pipe.

The final link of the exhaust system is the main and additional mufflers with an exhaust pipe, and in five- and six-cylinder engines the main muffler has a special design. The main muffler of these engines consists of two parts, located to the left and right of the longitudinal axis of the exhaust system. The exhaust pipe of six-cylinder engines is double.

As for the design of the quattro models' exhaust system, the part consisting of the downpipe and catalytic converter is absolutely identical for front-wheel drive models and quattro models. The differences begin behind the catalytic converter. For six-cylinder engines, the transition from both downpipes into one is made using a V-shaped adapter. All quattro models have a short connecting pipe for the main and additional mufflers. The additional and main mufflers can be changed separately. Unlike the main mufflers of front-wheel drive vehicles, which are made of two twin half-housings, the main muffler of quattro models is single-housing. The exhaust pipe on the additional muffler of quattro vehicles is double. Vehicles with a diesel engine also have a double exhaust pipe of the additional muffler (see illustrations 1.0 and 1.0a).
