1. Block the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and support it on axle stands. Remove the relevant rear wheel, release the handbrake.
2. Install the clamp on the brake pipe going to the brake caliper. Alternatively, the brake reservoir filler cap can be removed and the filler port sealed with polyethylene. This will reduce fluid loss during the next procedure.
3. Loosen the hydraulic hose connection but do not unscrew it at this stage (photo).
4. Follow the procedure for removing the brake pads given in Chapter 10.
5. On the Girling caliper, remove the handbrake cable retaining spring clip.
6. Turn the hand brake control lever, disconnect the inner cable and remove the cable cover from the caliper.
7. Turn off a hydraulic hose from a support. Plug the end of the hose.
8. If necessary, unscrew the caliper suspension frame on the rear axle.
9. Installation is carried out in reverse order, make sure that all mating surfaces are clean, and tighten the bolts and connections to the torque specified in the Specification. Finally, bleed the hydraulic system as described in Chapter 17. If the loss of fluid was minimal, it would be enough to pump only one caliper.
