2. Remove the filler cap of the brake fluid reservoir (photo), suck out the fluid with a syringe or flexible plastic bottle. Be careful not to spill the fluid on the car's paintwork - if this happens, rinse it off immediately with plenty of cold water.

3. Where equipped, disconnect the clutch feed pipes from the reservoir (photo).

4. Mark the location of the hydraulic brake pipes using masking tape.
5. Place a rag under the master cylinder, then unscrew the union nuts and disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder only. Plug the ends of the tubes, or cover them with duct tape.
6. Unscrew the mounting nuts or bolts, disconnect the master cylinder from the booster unit (photo). Remove the seal.

7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Install a new seal on the amplifier unit, and finally bleed the hydraulic system as described in Chapter 17. The brake line union nuts should be firmly tightened, but do not overtighten them, otherwise the flange at the end of the pipe may be damaged.
