The installation details of the drive disc and rear crankshaft oil seal for models up to 05.2010 are shown on illustrations 7.1b.

18.1b. Installation details of the drive disc and rear crankshaft oil seal (models from 06.2010.):

18.1b. Installation details of the drive disc and rear crankshaft oil seal (models from 06.2010.):
1 - Drive disk;
2, 4 - Washer;
3 - Bolt, to be replaced, 30 Nm then tighten to an angle of 90°;
5 - Rotor of the CKP sensor;
6 - Rear crankshaft oil seal;
7 - Torque converter centering sleeve;
8 - Centering sleeve of the drive disk.

2. Replacing the front and rear crankshaft oil seals is done in the same way as on the 1st generation 3.0 TDI models (see Section 7). Please note the specifics of removing/installing the crankshaft pulley for 3.0 TDI SCR models (see Section 17).

3. Removal and installation of the drive disk is carried out in the same way as on the 1st generation 3.0 TDI models (see Section 7). On 3.0 TDI SCR models from 06.2010, the rotor of the SCR sensor is removed together with the drive disk and its washers.

Removal and installation the front sealing flange

4. Remove the thermostat with the hose connection (see Chapter 3).

5. Remove the crankshaft pulley (see Section 17).

6. Unscrew the bolt (1 in the illustration) tube fastenings.

18.6. Bolt (1) for fastening the tube.

18.6. Bolt (1) for fastening the tube.

7. Remove the timing belt cover by pulling its upper side forward (see illustration 17.3) and unhooking the bottom side.

8. Remove the coolant pump pulley (see illustration 6.7).

9. Unscrew the bolt (1 in the illustration) and give away the nut (2).

18.9. Fastening of the right coolant pipe.

18.9. Fastening of the right coolant pipe.

Pull the right coolant pipe out of the cylinder block forward and push it to the side.

10. Remove the plug from the intermediate roller of the drive belt (3 in illustration 18.1a), unscrew the bolt (see illustration 7.12) and remove the roller from the sealing flange.

11. Unscrew the bolts securing the front sealing flange, first pull off its right side (1 in illustration 7.14), and then the left side (2). Remove the oil seal from the flange.

12. Using a plastic drill brush, remove any remaining sealant from the flange grooves and from the mating surfaces of the flange/cylinder block/upper oil pan. Clean mating surfaces from oil and grease. Install sealing elements into the flange (2 and 4 in Illustration 7.15) and sealing rings (1 and 3). Fill the flange groove with sealant (arrow) so that it protrudes by 1.5-2.0 mm.

13. Within 5 minutes of applying the sealant, install the flange and tighten its bolts diagonally in several passes, with a final torque of 9 Nm.

14. Install the front oil seal (see paragraph 2).

15. Install the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal.
