-Pos. 2- do not take into account. Remove the coolant hose from the engine oil cooler by loosening the hose clamp -arrow- and drain the remaining coolant.
The ignition is turned off.
Note. The cooling system is filled with coolant solution and antifreeze and corrosion protection products for the whole year. Only use a freeze and corrosion protection product approved for this engine. Other additives can significantly reduce the anti-corrosion effect. The resulting damage can lead to coolant leakage and, as a result, serious engine damage. Antifreeze and anti-corrosion concentrate prevent frost damage, corrosion and limescale deposits. In addition, they increase the boiling point. Therefore, throughout the year, an anti-corrosion concentrate must be in use in the cooling system to prevent freezing and corrosion. Especially in countries with a tropical climate, due to the increased boiling point of the coolant, it ensures reliable engine operation under high load. The freezing temperature of the coolant must be approx. -25°С (in countries with an Arctic climate, approx. -35°С). It is prohibited to reduce the additive content in the coolant by adding water, even in the warm season or when operating in countries with a warm climate. The additive content must be at least 40%. If due to climatic conditions the freezing point must be reduced, the proportion of anti-corrosion concentrate with antifreeze can be increased, but not more than 60% (The freezing temperature in this case will be about -40°C). If this limit is exceeded, the freezing temperature will increase again, and, in addition, the heat capacity of the coolant will decrease. To mix coolant, use only clean drinking water. Do not use drained coolant in the following cases: after replacing the radiator, heater heat exchanger, cylinder head, cylinder head gasket or cylinder block. When the coolant is contaminated. Contaminated coolant cannot be used for further use. Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the appropriate series. To check the additive in the cooling system, use a refractometer -T10007-.
Close the drain plug -1 -. -Pos. 2- do not take into account. Connect coolant hose to radiator -arrow-. Pour 12 liters of coolant into the coolant reservoir, pre-mixed with an additive in the correct proportion: anti-corrosion concentrate (40%) and water (60%) for freezing temperatures down to -25°C; Anti-corrosion concentrate (50%) and water (50%) for freezing temperatures down to -35°C. Screw cooling system tester adapter -VAG 1274/8- to extension. tank.
The ignition is turned off.
Install the coolant filling tool onto the adapter -VAG 1274/8-. Place the bleeder hose -1- into a small container -2-. The exhaust air entrains a small amount of coolant, which must be collected. Close valves -A- and -B- by turning them perpendicular to the direction of flow. Connect hose -3- to compressed air. Pressure: overpressure 6...10 bar. Open valve -B- by turning it in the direction of flow. A vacuum is created in the cooling system using an ejection pump; the indicator arrow should be in the green field. Open tap -A- briefly, turn it parallel to the direction of flow so that the hose of the reservoir tank of the device for filling the cooling system is filled with coolant. Close tap -A- again. Open tap -B- for 2 minutes.
A vacuum continues to be created in the cooling system using the ejection pump; the indicator arrow should be in the green field. Close tap -B-. The indicator arrow should remain in the green field, in which case there is sufficient vacuum in the cooling system for subsequent refilling. If the arrow is below the green field, you should repeat the previous operations. When the vacuum decreases, check the cooling system for leaks. Remove the compressed air hose. Open tap -A-. Thanks to the vacuum, the coolant leaving the reservoir for filling the cooling system fills the system. Remove the filling tool from the adapter -VAG 1274/8-to extended. cooling system reservoir. Place tube -VAG 1274/10- onto adapter -VAG 1274/8-.
Fill with coolant until the cooling system tester tube is completely filled. If necessary, add coolant while removing air. Remove gasket -3-. Release the fastening clips -1- from the fastenings and remove the plenum chamber cover -2-.
Remove the coolant hose to the heat exchanger by disconnecting the hose clamp. As soon as coolant starts to flow out of the vent hole -arrow-, insert the coolant hose onto the fitting and secure it with a clamp. On vehicles with auxiliary heater, turn on the heater for approx. for 30 seconds.
Screw in the expansion plug. tank until it clicks. Start the engine. Set the temperature for all zones to "HI" and, if possible, set the ventilation level to the lowest level (= 0). Switch off the air conditioning compressor by pressing the button "AC". The tester LED in the button should not light up. The engine should run at 2000 rpm for 3 minutes. Leave the engine idling until the 2 large coolant hoses on the radiator warm up. The engine should run at 2000 rpm for 2 minutes. Turn off and allow the engine to cool. Install sound insulation. Check coolant level. When the engine is cold, the coolant temperature level should be at the MAX mark. When the engine is warm, the coolant level should be above the MAX mark.
