Drain
Remove the engine hood.
Open cap -arrow- of coolant expansion tank. Remove the soundproofing cover, loosen the fasteners for this. Place a pallet for service cranes -VAS 6208- under the engine.
Detach lower coolant hose -arrow- from radiator by lifting clamp; drain coolant.

A solution of water and an anti-corrosion concentrate is poured into the cooling system, which also prevents freezing, designed for operation at any time of the year. Use only approved anti-corrosion concentrate with antifreeze for this engine. Other concentrates may impair the properties of the coolant, primarily anti-corrosion. The resulting damage can cause leaks in the cooling system and lead to serious engine damage. Antifreeze and anti-corrosion concentrate prevent frost damage, corrosion and limescale build-up. In addition, they absorb the boiling point. Therefore, an anti-corrosion concentrate must work in the cooling system throughout the year to prevent freezing and corrosion. Especially in countries with a tropical climate, at high engine loads, coolant with a high boiling point reliably protects the engine during operation. The freezing point of the coolant must be at least -25°C (in countries with arctic climate, not less than -35°C). It is also forbidden to reduce the proportion of concentrate in the coolant in the warm season or when operating in countries with a warm climate by adding water to the cooling system. The share of concentrate should be at least 40%. If, due to climatic conditions, the freezing point must be lowered, it is possible to increase the proportion of anti-corrosion concentrate with antifreeze, but not more than 60°C (freezing temperature in this case will be about -40°C). If this limit is exceeded, the freezing point will rise again and, in addition, the heat capacity of the coolant will decrease. Use only clean drinking water to mix the coolant. Do not use drained coolant in the following cases: after replacing the heater core, cylinder head, cylinder head gasket or cylinder block. When coolant is contaminated. Refractometer -T10007- must be used to check the concentrate in the cooling system.
Remove compressed air hose. Open tap -A-. Owing to the vacuum, the coolant exiting the reservoir of the cooling system filler -VAS 6096- fills the system. Remove coolant filling tool -VAS 6096- from coolant expansion tank. Pour 0F up to the mark "max". Start the engine and let it run at 1500 rpm for no more than 2 minutes. With the engine running, fill the coolant into the expansion tank up to the edge of the filling hole. On vehicles with an auxiliary heater, turn on the heater for approx. for 30 seconds. Start the engine and let it run at 1500 rpm for no more than 2 minutes. With the engine running, fill the coolant into the expansion tank up to the edge of the filling hole.
Close cap -arrow- for coolant expansion tank. Let the engine idle until the 2 large coolant hoses on the radiator are hot. Switch off and let the engine cool down. Install a soundproof screen. Check coolant level.
