Manual Transmission
Attention! As part of the maintenance, it is only necessary to check the oil level in the box. Gear oil change is not required.
Level check
1. Jack up the car, place it on jack stands.
2. Unscrew the filler plug on the gearbox housing (see arrow on illustration). The cork can be closed with a heat-reflecting shield.
10.2. Unscrew the filler plug on the gearbox housing (see arrow)
3. Use a bent wire pin, one end of which is approximately 1 cm long, bent at an angle of 90', and check the oil level in the gearbox. At the same time, hold the pin in the hole strictly horizontally, and the bent end should be turned down. The gear oil level is normal if it is 1 mm below the filler hole.
Attention! If during the check it turns out that there is little oil in the gearbox, then the gearbox should be inspected for leaks and oil leakage. If necessary, contact a workshop to repair the box.
4. Top up, if required, oil in the gearbox. The manufacturer recommends using synthetic gear oil SAE 75W90 of Audi G 052 911 A specification.
5. Screw the screw plug into the filler hole and tighten it to 40 Nm.
6. Install heat deflector if provided.
7. Lower the car on wheels.
Automatic transmission
The recommended gear oil is SAE 75W90 of Audi specification G 052 145.
Level check
8. Warm up the oil in the final drive to 60°C with a short drive.
9. Jack up the vehicle, place it horizontally on jack stands and remove the engine mudguard.
10. Unscrew the filler plug (see arrow in illustration) and check the oil level. Its level should be flush with the lower edge of the filler hole.
10.10. Unscrew the filler plug (see arrow) and check the oil level
11. Replace the old O-ring on the filler plug and screw in the plug, tightening it to 30 Nm.
Attention! If, when checking the oil level in the final drive, it turns out that the oil level is low or high, then, as a rule, the reason for this is a defect in the planetary gear, as a result of which oil is reported in the gearbox and in the final drive. In this case, contact a workshop and there find and fix the problem.
Gearbox - visual leak test
Leaks are possible in the following places:
- at the junction between the cylinder block and the gearbox;
- at the junction of the gearbox and drive shafts;
- on the oil filler plug;
- on the drain plug.
If there are smudges on the gearbox and it is oily, then the following steps must be taken to locate leaks:
12. Clean the gearbox housing.
13. Sprinkle lime or talc on suspected leaks.
14. Carry out a test drive. Since the fluidity of the oil increases when the engine heats up and it seeps faster in places where tightness is broken, the length of the test drive should be about 30 km.
15. Jack up the car, put it on jack stands.
16. Examine a transmission, lighting it with a lantern, and localize places of leaks.
17. Eliminate leaks and add oil to the gearbox.
