Tie rod ends and ball joints - inspection

13.2. Check the condition of the protective caps using a flashlight (see arrow) ball joints of the left and right tie rod ends, as well as their corrugated cuffs

3. Check the tightening of lock nut 1 without changing its tightening torque, which is 40 Nm (see illustration 13.2).

4. Check for play in the transverse steering rods. To do this, grab the rod with your hand and move it to one side and then to the opposite side. There should be no play. Otherwise, replace the corresponding tip.

If the protective cap of the ball joint is damaged, it is recommended to contact a workshop to replace the ball joint itself, because dirt that gets through the damaged cap will eventually break the ball joint.

Rubber CV joint seals - check

5. Jack up the car and place it on jack stands.

6. Check the condition of the rubber of the CV joint cuffs using a flashlight. Pay special attention to the presence of porosity and cracks. When inspecting the cuffs, try not to deform them. If the cuff is torn, replace it immediately.

If the cuff is bent inward due to low pressure or has other defects, it should also be replaced.

7. Pay special attention to traces of grease on the cuff and on the parts adjacent to it.

8. Check the condition and tightening of the cuff fastening clamps.

9. Lower the car onto its wheels.
