Application: The fluid should be replaced every 4 years or 60,000 km, whichever comes first.
1. Apply the handbrake, raise the front of the car and install safety stands (see Jacking up a car and installing safety supports). Remove the lower engine cover.
Application: To ensure accuracy, Audi mechanics use an electronic tester connected to the electronic control system of the automatic transmission, which determines the temperature of the fluid (it should be within 35...40°C). Therefore, it is recommended to entrust this operation to specialists at the dealership service center. The procedure described below involves a final check of the oil level in the automatic transmission with the help of specialists at the dealership service center.
2. Please note that the liquid is poured from under the car, so the car should be raised high enough.
3. Place a suitable container under the automatic transmission. Wipe the pan, unscrew the control plug and remove it together with the measuring tube (Fig. 28.3). Drain the oil into the container placed underneath.
Fig. 28.3. Components of the automatic transmission oil pan (01N):
1. Control plug
2. Measuring tube
3. Sealing cap with plug
4. Type B sealing cap. To be replaced after removal
5. Sealing cap of early models
6. Late model sealing cap
4. Screw in the measuring tube and tighten it to the specified torque.
5. Remove the sealing cap from the filler tube installed on the side of the pan.
Note: The sealing caps of later models must be replaced after any removal - they are disposable.
6. Pour liquid into the tray until it starts to flow out of the measuring tube.
7. Switch on the "P" mode. Then start the engine at idle speed and warm it up to operating temperature. If necessary, add fluid until it starts to flow out of the measuring tube.
8. Press the brake pedal, engage each automatic transmission mode in turn for three seconds, then move the selector lever to position "P".
9. At this stage, Audi mechanics connect a tester to ensure that the fluid temperature is within the range of 35...40°C.
Usage: If you finish drinking the liquid at a lower temperature, you can overdrink it. If you add liquid at a higher temperature, you can underfill it.
10. While maintaining idle speed, allow a line of liquid to flow out through the measuring tube.
11. Stop the engine, screw in the check plug with a new seal and tighten it to the specified torque.
12. Install the new sealing cap onto the filler tube.
13. Lower the vehicle.
