  • Hydraulic tubes and hoses — replacement

Warning: On models equipped with ABS, before opening the hydraulic system, disconnect the battery and do not reconnect it until the bleeding work is completed and the reserve tank is filled with fluid. If this is not done, air may enter the ABS hydraulic system, which will require specialized diagnostic equipment to remove - you will have to contact the dealer for help.

Application: Before starting work, read the warnings at the beginning paragraph 2 about the toxicity of brake fluid.

1. When replacing any tube or hose, to minimize the loss of brake fluid, remove the cap of the brake fluid reserve reservoir. Place a circle of polyethylene or other sealing material between it and the neck of the reservoir and tighten it tightly. Alternatively, you can pinch the corresponding hose to isolate part of the circuit. You can plug the brake pipe with a plug (put a dust cap on it) (do not allow dirt to enter the system) immediately after disconnecting it. Place a rag or container under the disconnected section to collect any spilled liquid.

2. If you need to disconnect the hose, unscrew the nut connecting it to the tube before unhooking the spring clip securing the hose to the bracket. If necessary, unscrew the connecting bolt of the hose to the caliper and remove the copper sealing washers. When removing the front slag, pull the spring clip and remove the rubber seal from the bracket.

3. To unscrew the pipe connections, you need to buy a special key of the right size. They are sold in many auto parts stores. Unscrewing the stuck nuts of the connections with an open-end wrench can lead to rounding of the nut edges. In such situations, only a "parrot" key with self-biting jaws can help. After such cases, the pipe is replaced. A special key will help to save the pipe. Always clean the pipe connections. When disconnecting components with more than one connection, carefully inspect the other connections before deciding "which end to start with."

4. If the tube is being replaced, it can be purchased from a dealer - of the required length, configuration and with the tips cut out. However, you can also go to a workshop where they will cut a piece of the tube of the required length for you, flare the tips and, possibly, install the connecting nuts. But you will most likely have to bend it at the installation site. You yourself. If you choose this path, carefully measure at least the length of the tube.

5. After the tube is installed, tighten the connection nut tightly, but do not overtighten - you can strip the threads. The hydraulic connection is not a trainer for tightening "to the creak".

6. When connecting the hose to the caliper, always use new copper sealing washers and tighten the hollow connection bolt to the specified torque. Install the hose so that it does not touch any suspension parts or wheels.

7. Check that the pipes and hoses are laid correctly and that all fasteners are installed. After installation, remove the polyethylene circle from under the reserve tank lid. Bleed the system as described in paragraph 2. Wash off any traces of brake fluid and check for leaks before driving on the road.
