Warning: The system must be in the proper mode before removing components. This work requires specialized diagnostic equipment. Contact your dealer for assistance.
Control Panel
40. Switch the system to the appropriate mode by contacting the dealer for assistance.
41. Remove the radio unit as described in chapter 12.
42. Unscrew the four mounting screws and, using a thin flat-head screwdriver, remove the front panel trim.
43. Remove the two mounting screws, spring clips and remove the control panel from the center console. On later models, the control panel is secured with four spring clips and will come off if you push it out through the opening for the radio.
44. Disconnect the air duct from the temperature sensor on top of the control panel.
45. Press the latches, disconnect the multi-pin connectors from the rear of the control panel. Remove the unit from the car.
46. Installation - reverse procedure. Please note the following:
- a) Correctly connect the air duct to the air temperature sensor.
- 6) Before installing the control panel, make sure the spring clips are positioned correctly.
- c) If the control panel needs to be replaced, it must be activated using specialized diagnostic equipment. Contact your dealer for assistance.
Valve (damper) drive servomotors
47. As described in chapter 11, remove the front panel.
48. Remove the screws and remove the front panel support brackets from the floor panels above the gearbox tunnel.
49. Disconnect the air distribution unit from the base of the heater core/evaporator housing.
50. Servomotors are mounted on the side of the heater/evaporator housing and are identified as follows:
- a) Defroster valve (defroster) - yellow wiring connector.
- b) Temperature valve/damper - purple wiring connector.
- c) Central damper/valve - green wiring connector.
51. Disconnect the wiring connector, disconnect the control lever from the motor shaft.
52. Unscrew the mounting screws and remove the motor from the housing. The defroster valve is secured with a clamp.
53. Installation - reverse procedure. Finally, the system must be activated using specialized equipment. Contact your dealer for assistance.
Temperature sensors
54. On early models, the interior temperature sensor is built into the center console trim. Removal is described below.
55. Remove the four mounting screws, then use a small flat-head screwdriver to pry the trim off the center console.
56. Disconnect the air duct from the rear of the sensor and remove the sensor with the cover from the car.
57. The heater fan motor sensor is located behind the front panel of the center console. It can be removed by disconnecting the wiring and unscrewing the mounting screws.
58. Installation - reverse procedure.
59. On later models, additional sensors are installed in individual air ducts leading to the front panel deflector and to the feet. They can be removed by disconnecting the wiring, turning the sensor and removing it from the air duct.
Light sensor
60. Carefully remove the cover panel from the central windshield air duct.
61. Loosen the screw and remove the sensor from the deflector. Disconnect the wiring and tie up the connector so that it does not fall behind the front panel.
62. Installation - reverse procedure.
Vacuum tank
63. Remove the evaporator heater core housing as described above.
64. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the fittings on the side of the vacuum unit. Mark them so that they are connected correctly during assembly.
65. Loosen the screws and remove the vacuum tank from the housing.
66. Installation - reverse procedure.
Vacuum diaphragm block
67. Remove the evaporator heater radiator housing as described above.
68. Loosen the screws securing the vacuum diaphragm block.
69. Disconnect the diaphragm block rod from the drive lever.
70. Remove the unit from the heater/evaporator housing.
71. Installation - reverse procedure. Before attaching to the lever, adjust the length of the diaphragm rod to 50 mm.
