Petrol engines
Four-cylinder engines
1. Remove the air filter on the 66 kW engine.
2. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose. If installed, disconnect the wiring harness.
3. Disconnect the gas cable and remove it from the counter support.
4. Unscrew the nuts of the cylinder head cover mounting bolts.
5. Remove the reinforcement strips.
6. Remove the cylinder head cover.
7. Remove the oil deflector if necessary.
Five-cylinder engine
8. Disconnect the brake booster hose from the intake manifold.
9. Remove the upper part of the intake manifold and the injector valves, see the relevant chapter.
10. Disconnect the idle speed control valve.
11. Unscrew the nuts of the cylinder head cover mounting bolts.
12. Remove the reinforcement strips.
13. Remove the cylinder head cover.
Six-cylinder engine
The six-cylinder engine is covered with a cover, which, in addition to its aesthetic function, also serves as a noise-reducing element. To remove this protective cover, the fastening latches must be turned 90° with a screwdriver.
14. Unscrew the nuts of the cylinder head cover mounting bolts.
15. Remove the cylinder head cover.
16. Remove the oil deflector if necessary.
Diesel engines
17. Loosen the clamps on the crankcase ventilation hose.
18. Remove the round black crankcase ventilation pressure reducing valve from the cylinder head cover. Do not disconnect the hose leading downwards (see illustration). Now you can unscrew the three nuts securing the cylinder head cover (see arrows in illustration 6.18), closed with protective caps.

19. Remove the caps from the cylinder head cover mounting nuts.
20. Unscrew the nuts and remove them together with the conical washers and gaskets.
21. Remove the cylinder head cover. If the cover is tight, loosen it by tapping it with a wooden hammer handle.
Caution: Replace the cylinder head cover rubber gasket with a new one only if the old one is damaged.
Installation
Petrol engines
Attention! Replace the cylinder head cover gasket with a new one.
Four and five cylinder engines
22. Place reinforcing strips under the cylinder head cover mounting nuts.
Six-cylinder engine
23. Lubricate the cylinder head cover gasket on the inner and outer sides with a thin layer of silicone compound D 007 00004 (number from the list of spare parts AUDI).
24. Apply a thin layer of sealing compound "Silimate" AMV 174 004 01 to the mating surface of the head cover gasket to the camshaft bearing caps. Do not allow the sealing compound to get into the oil channel opening on the bearing cap.
All petrol engines
25. Tighten the cylinder head cover nuts or bolts in a cross pattern, starting from the middle, to a torque of 10 Nm (see illustration).
