Gasoline engines
Four-cylinder engines
1. Remove the air filter on the 66 kW engine.
2. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose. If routed, disconnect wiring harness.
3. Disconnect the cable «gas» and remove it from the counter support.
4. Turn away nuts of bolts of fastening of a cover of a head.
5. Remove reinforcing strips.
6. Remove the cylinder head cover.
7. Remove the oil deflector if necessary.
Five-cylinder engine
8. Disconnect the vacuum brake booster hose from the intake manifold.
9. Remove the upper part of the intake manifold, as well as valve injectors, see the relevant chapter.
10. Disconnect the idle speed control valve.
11. Turn away nuts of bolts of fastening of a cover of a head.
12. Remove reinforcing bars.
13. Remove the cylinder head cover.
Six-cylinder engine
The six-cylinder engine is covered with a cover, which, in addition to its aesthetic function, is also an element of noise reduction. To remove this protective cover, the fastening latches must be turned by 90°with a screwdriver.
14. Turn away nuts of bolts of fastening of a cover of a head.
15. Remove the cylinder head cover.
16. Remove the oil deflector if necessary.
Diesel engines
17. Release the clamps on the crankcase ventilation hose.
18. Remove the round crankcase ventilation black relief valve from the cylinder head cover. Hose leading down, do not disconnect (see illustration). Now you can unscrew the three nuts securing the cylinder head cover (see arrows in illustration 6.18), closed with protective caps.
19. Remove caps from nuts of fastening of a cover of a head of the block of cylinders.
20. Turn away nuts and remove them together with conical washers and linings.
21. Remove the cylinder head cover. If the lid is tight, loosen it by tapping it with a wooden handle of a hammer.
Attention: Replace the rubber gasket of the cylinder head cover with a new one only if the old one is damaged.
Installation
Gasoline engines
Attention! Replace the cylinder head cover gasket with a new one.
Four- and five-cylinder engines
22. Place reinforcing strips under the head cover fastening nuts.
Six-cylinder engine
23. Lubricate the head cover gasket on the inside and outside with a thin layer of silicone mass D 007 00004 (number from the AUDI spare parts list).
24. Apply a thin layer of sealing mass to the contact surface of the head cover gasket to the camshaft bearing caps «Silimate» AMV 174 004 01. Do not allow any sealing compound to enter the oil passage hole on the bearing cover.
All petrol engines
25. Tighten the nuts or bolts of the cylinder head cover in a cross pattern, starting from the middle, with a torque of 10 Nm (see illustration).
