The water pump on vehicles with a four-cylinder engine, as well as a diesel engine, is located on the left side of the engine when viewed in the direction of travel and is driven by a V-belt.
In cars with a five-cylinder engine, the water pump is also located on the left side of the engine, but is driven by a toothed belt.
In vehicles with a six-cylinder engine, the water pump is driven by the outer side of the toothed belt.
The water pump does not require maintenance. Its repair is also impossible. If leaks or grinding noises appear during operation, the water pump must be replaced as a set.
New gaskets are required when installing the pump (four- and six-cylinder engines, as well as diesel) or a new sealing ring (five-cylinder engine).
1. Four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. First remove the V-belt and the power steering pump bracket.
2. Remove the timing belt protective cover.
3. Disconnect the water pump housing.
4. Disconnect the pump cover from the housing by unscrewing the seven bolts (see illustration).

5. Replace the gasket between the pump cover and the housing. When replacing the pump housing, the gasket between the pump housing and the motor should also be replaced.
6. Tighten the pump cover mounting bolts to 10 Nm and the V-belt pulley bolts to 25 Nm. The tightening torque of the pump housing mounting bolts on the engine for M6 hexagon bolts is 25 Nm, and for M10 bolts it is 25 Nm.
7. Five-cylinder engine. Remove the power steering pump first.
8. Remove the timing belt protective cover.
9. Loosen the timing belt tension and remove the timing belt from the Water Pump Gear (see illustration).

10. Unscrew the water pump mounting bolts and remove it.
11. Install the new water pump with a new O-ring.
12. Screw in the water pump mounting bolts and tighten them to a torque of 20 Nm.
13. Apply the timing belt and be sure to check the operation of the timing mechanism.
14. Tighten the timing belt. Six-cylinder engine. When replacing the water pump, the owner of a car with this engine faces a problem related to removing the timing belt (see illustration 9.0a).

15. Remove the V-belt.
16. Remove the timing belt.
17. Remove the nine bolts on the water pump housing and remove the housing.
18. Replace the gasket.
19. Screw in the pump housing mounting bolts and tighten them in two passes to a torque of 10 Nm.
20. Install the timing belt and be sure to check the operation of the timing mechanism.
Warning! Do not operate vehicles with four-cylinder gasoline or diesel engines without a V-belt for the water pump drive. This may cause serious engine damage.
