1. The slave cylinder is secured to the clutch housing with a single bolt. Although access is possible from the engine bay, access is best achieved by raising the front of the vehicle.
2. Loosen only the hydraulic line coupling on the slave cylinder.
3. Unscrew the mounting bolt and remove the working cylinder (photo).

4. Unscrew the cylinder from the pipe coupling and plug the end of the pipe.
5. Repair kits are not manufactured by Audi but can be purchased from your car and parts dealer.
6. Before overhauling the working cylinder, clean the outer surfaces.
7. Remove the rubber boot and remove the push rod.
8. Remove the special spring clip from the cylinder socket, take out the piston and spring.
9. Clean the parts, check their condition. If the piston and bore are excessively worn or there is visible corrosion, replace the cylinder. If the parts are in good condition, remove and replace the piston seal
10. Dip the new seal into the hydraulic fluid and install it on the piston using your fingers only. Make sure the seal lip faces the end of the piston spring.
11. Insert the spring into the cylinder, then lower the piston into the hydraulic fluid and carefully insert it.
12. While holding the piston with a screwdriver, press the new spring clip into the cylinder bell
13. Install the push rod, then the rubber boot.
14. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Bleed the system as described in Chapter 4. The end of the push rod that contacts the release lever should be lightly lubricated with molybdenum grease. If a plastic retainer ring is used, the outer surface should also be lubricated with the same lubricant.
