1. Accurate wheel alignment is essential for good steering and slow tire wear. Alignment values are given in Specifications and can be accurately checked with appropriate equipment. Front wheel installation (convergence) can be checked and adjusted, but other angles are best checked and adjusted by your dealer due to the need for special templates. To adjust the camber, move the lower control arm ball joints within the tolerance allowed by the elongated bolt holes. The kingpin pitch is not adjustable, and any deviation from the specified value can only be due to damage or severe wear of the components. Rear suspension angles are not adjustable. Front wheel alignment templates are available from automotive parts stores and the method for using them is described below.
2. Check that the vehicle is at a net weight, with a full fuel tank and properly inflated tires.
3. Place the vehicle on level ground with the wheels straight ahead, then roll the vehicle 4 meters back and forward again.
4. Using the wheel alignment template according to the manufacturer's instructions, check that the front wheel toe-in is in accordance with the Specifications. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the jam nuts on both tie rods, and turn the adjusters an equal number of turns. The amount of thread visible on each tie rod must be the same. Make sure the tie rod ball joints are centered before tightening the locknuts.
5. If, after adjusting, the steering wheel is not level when the front wheels are straight ahead, the steering wheel must be removed (see chapter 12) and install again.
