1. If there is any inappropriate play in the steering gear resulting in noise or rattling, the steering gear must be adjusted as follows. This will require an assistant.
2. Turn the steering wheel approximately 30°either way from the center position. The front wheels should finally be set straight ahead.
3. Loosen the adjustment screw at the top of the steering gear until there is significant play and rack movement audible from inside the car (photo).
4. Slowly tighten the adjustment screw until rack movement is no longer audible inside the vehicle. If the adjustment screw is equipped with a lock nut, check that it is tight after adjustment. Also check that the cover bolts are tight.
5. Turn the steering from lock to lock and make sure there are no 'tight' spots.
