1. The steering damper is fitted on direct acting steering models and is connected between the steering rod mounting member and the mounting protrusion on the outer end of the steering gear housing.
2. To remove the shock absorber, unscrew and remove the bolt securing the rod to the steering rod mounting element, then unscrew the nut, disconnect the shock absorber from the outer mounting post.
3. With the shock absorber removed, check that the piston rod moves evenly and smoothly throughout its full stroke. Replace the shock absorber if necessary.
4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Tighten the nuts with the tightening force specified Specification. If the auto-lock nuts have been removed more than two or three times, they must be replaced, otherwise the auto-lock action will not be sufficient. Replace them as a precaution if in doubt.
