1. Loosen and remove the bolts securing the tie rod mounting plate to the steering rack. Support the plate above the rack using a block.
2. Remove the covers from the groove in the retaining ring on the rack, then pull the ring off the rack.
3. Loosen the clamp and remove the casing from the steering gear housing.
4. Remove any remaining lubricant from inside the housing and apply it to the rack. If lubricant has been lost, it must be replaced with Audi special lubricant (part number AOF 063 000 04).
5. Place the new covers on the steering gear, install the bracket with the screw connection to the bulkhead. Tighten the bracket.
6. Push the outer ring all the way onto the rack, then insert the bellows into the round groove.
7. Position the tie rod mounting plate on the rack, then insert and tighten the two bolts to the specified torque Specification.
