1. Loosen and remove the bolts securing the tie rod mounting plate to the steering rack. Support the plate above the lath using a beam.
2. Remove the shrouds from the groove in the circlip on the rack, then pull the ring off the rack.
3. Loosen the bracket, remove the casing from the steering gear housing.
4. Remove the remaining lubricant from the inside of the casing and apply it to the rail. If the lubricant has been lost, it must be replaced with an Audi specific lubricant (part number AOF 063 000 04).
5. Place new casings on the steering gear, install the bracket with the screw connection to the bulkhead. Clamp the bracket.
6. Push the outer ring all the way onto the rail, then slide the bellows into the round groove.
7. Position the tie rod mounting plate on the rack, then insert and tighten the two bolts to the specified torque specification.
