Remove locking pins -T10074- from intake camshaft sprocket with camshaft adjuster and exhaust camshaft sprocket.
Fit retaining plate -T10073- on intake camshaft sprocket with camshaft adjuster.
Re-insert locking pins -T10074- as far as they will go into the calibration holes in the camshaft bearing housing as follows: locking pin -A- through the locking hole of the inlet camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster. Locking pin -B- through the locking hole of the exhaust camshaft gear.
Instruction. To facilitate insertion of the locking pin -B-, you can turn the exhaust camshaft gear on the bolt slightly so that the calibration holes are opposite each other.
Remove screw plug -1- with seal. ring -2-. Risk of thread damage. The intake camshaft gear bolt with camshaft adjuster has a left-hand thread. Remove bolt for intake camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster using socket wrench -T10061-. Remove the bolt for the exhaust camshaft gear. Remove locking pin -T10074- and remove retaining plate -T10073-.
Unscrew bolt -3-, remove washer -4- for intake camshaft gear -5- with camshaft adjuster and. where available, washer -b-. Lay intake camshaft sprocket with camshaft adjuster screwed flat on a clean surface. Remove the exhaust camshaft gear.
Installation
Not a single piston "TDC".
Instruction. Replace the bolts for the intake camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster and the exhaust camshaft gear. If a washer was installed between the intake camshaft gear with variable valve timing and the camshaft (only in old designs), then it should also be replaced. If the intake camshaft gear with natural gas distribution regulators is replaced, then the cuff must also be replaced. Install the exhaust camshaft gear and tighten the bolt by hand. Observe the position of the exhaust camshaft gear in relation to the keyway in the exhaust camshaft.
Lubricate the thread and bearing surface of the bolt head -3- for the intake camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster. Insert bolt with washer -4- as far as it will go through inlet camshaft gear -5- with camshaft adjuster. If a washer -6- was installed between the intake camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster and the camshaft (only in old designs), then it should also be replaced.
Carefully! Risk of thread damage. the intake camshaft gear bolt with the camshaft adjuster has a left-hand thread.
Screw the bolt for the intake camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster into the intake camshaft a few turns. Carefully push the intake camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster into the collar. Be careful not to damage the cuff. Tighten the bolt for the intake camshaft sprocket with camshaft adjuster until the intake camshaft sprocket with camshaft adjuster can still rotate. Remove the high pressure pump. Position locating flange -T10110- on gearbox side on camshaft bearing housing for inlet camshaft as follows: pin -arrow- of locating flange -T10110- must engage in small hole in camshaft thrust bearing.
Pins -1- of camshaft must fit into recess -2- of locating flange -T10110-. Rotate inlet camshaft against direction of engine rotation at hexagon of locating flange -T10110- until holes -arrows- in locating flange -T10110- are aligned with threaded holes in camshaft bearing housing. Tighten retaining flange -T10110- with two M6x15 bolts to 10 Nm.
Turn the intake camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster so that the bores in the intake camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster are aligned with the bores in the camshaft bearing housing -arrow left-.
Fit retaining plate -T10073- to: intake camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster.
Insert locating pins -T10074- as far as they will go into the calibration holes in the camshaft bearing housing as follows: locating pin -A- through the locating hole of the inlet camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster. Locking pin -B- through the locating hole in the exhaust camshaft gear.
Instruction. To facilitate seating of the locking pin -B-, you can turn the exhaust camshaft gear on the bolt slightly so that the calibration holes are opposite each other.
Finally tighten the bolts for the exhaust camshaft gear.
Carefully! Risk of thread damage. The intake camshaft gear bolt with camshaft adjuster has a left-hand thread.
Finally tighten the bolt for the intake camshaft gear with camshaft adjuster.
Remove locking pin -T10074- and remove retaining plate -T10073-.
Secure inlet camshaft sprocket with camshaft adjuster and exhaust camshaft sprocket again with locking pins -T10074-. Install in reverse order, installing the toothed belt for the associated drive.
