The second generation A4 appeared on the market in November 2000 in the Sedan version. A year later, the station wagon (AVANT) and convertible (Cabrio) models appeared on the market. The sports version was introduced in 2002.

The body of the second generation A4 has increased in comparison with its predecessor: by 69 mm in length (4547 mm), by 33 mm in width (1766 mm), and by 13 mm in height.

The A4 is equipped with a comprehensive range of safety features. The basis for passenger safety is a robust passenger compartment with defined deformation characteristics. The safety features also include driver and front passenger airbags, as well as Sideguard side head airbags and belt tensioners for the front seats. An electronic anti-skid system is fitted as standard (stabilization of exchange rate stability), as well as emergency braking assistance.

The fully galvanized body, with a 10-year warranty against corrosion, is a load-bearing steel structure with integrated aluminum components that reduce the weight of the vehicle. High-strength steel sheets, plastic and magnesium are used as materials to further reduce the weight of the vehicle.

Petrol engines - in-line four-cylinder or V-shaped six-cylinder (eight-cylinder on S4 models) with electronic control.

Diesel engines are in-line four-cylinder or V-shaped six-cylinder.

All engines are water-cooled and located in the engine compartment along the vehicle.

Models with front or all-wheel drive "Quattro" are produced. All-wheel drive models are equipped with a Torsen center differential with automatic locking.

The modified chassis made of aluminum alloy ensures high dynamic performance and precise vehicle control.

Depending on the configuration, a fully synchronized 5- or 6-speed manual transmission or automatic transmission is installed (Tiptronic with dynamic shift program DSP or Multitronic with dynamic control program DPR).

The front suspension is independent, four-link McPherson with coil springs, telescopic gas-filled shock absorbers and a tubular stabilizer bar. The axle beam is attached to the body on rubber-metal supports.

Independent rear suspension with coil springs and gas-filled shock absorbers. The axle beam is attached to the body on rubber-metal supports.

Steering mechanism – rack and pinion, with speed-dependent hydraulic booster gain (Servotronic). Adjustable, injury-safe steering column.

The car is equipped with an electronic anti-skid system (stability stabilization - ESP), which integrates the anti-lock braking system (ABS), the anti-slip regulation system (ASR), the electronic differential lock (EDS) and the brake force distributor (EBV) into a single network. An emergency brake assist (BAS) is installed.

The basic brake system is hydraulic, dual-circuit with diagonal division and dual booster. Anti-lock brake system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBV) with vacuum booster.

Brakes - disc, ventilated on the front wheels.

A single lock with direct or remote control is used to lock the locks.

The next scheduled maintenance date is indicated by an indicator on the display.

The driver information system is installed as standard equipment.

Excellent aerodynamics and the use of lightweight materials have contributed to the reduction of fuel consumption. Thanks to the use of high-strength steel and additional protective elements, as well as the development of large deformation zones, it provides even greater safety than the previous model.
