Salt crust contributes to the formation of rust
Salt, which is sprinkled on roads in winter, penetrates deep into the engine compartment through cracks and channels and is deposited on the radiator, various ribs and wires. This crust of salt binds moisture and promotes rust formation. The engine may only be washed in places where there are oil separators. It is best to do this work at a self-service car wash or wash station.
After washing the engine, check that there is sufficient grease on the throttle control levers and links, and on the clutch and throttle control cables. Apply moderate lubrication if necessary.
1. The engine should be as cold as possible, because on a warm engine, the engine cleaner evaporates quickly, this does not allow it to work and dissolve dirt.
2. Turn off the engine and ignition.
3. Use rags or plastic bags to protect sensitive parts such as ignition, alternator, fuel system. In case of thoughtless spraying of the engine compartment, ignition and electrical malfunctions are inevitable.
4. First, clean the inside of the hood. Soften the dirt with plenty of water, scrub with a sponge and shampoo, then wash the hood again with water. Don't forget the edges, that's where the whole dirt pools are created.
5. Wash the radiator with a washing gun and plenty of water. Spray the remains of insects with a protein-dissolving agent (dishwashing detergent), let it work for some time, and flush from the inside of the radiator. Be careful, hard brushes can damage the soft radiator fins.
6. Wash all slots, brackets and unprotected places in the engine compartment.
7. Spray heavily soiled parts of the engine and engine compartment with an aerosol cleaner. After some time, after the cleaner has worked, rinse it off with a thin stream of water.
8. To drain all the water from the engine compartment, use an air gun, such sprayers are usually found in self-service car washes. Do not get too close to drying surfaces.
Spray engine cleaner on dirty areas and let it work for about two minutes. The softened dirt can then be washed off with a fine stream of water.
Protective varnish
To prevent dirt from accumulating again in the engine compartment within a short time, the cylinder block and its periphery can be protected with a heat-resistant varnish. For other parts of the engine compartment, it is sufficient to use a preservative aerosol or wax.
