For a thorough interior cleaning you will need:
- Rags (better without fringe) for wet and dry cleaning.
- Clothes brush or upholstery brush.
- Vacuum cleaner with various nozzles (brush with handle and dustpan).
- Suede for wiping window panes.
- Finely porous polymer sponge for plastic parts.
Salon care products
Means for care of plastic products. For plastic surfaces. Cleans and refreshes paints, provides gloss. It has an antistatic effect, so surfaces will be protected from dirt and dust for a long time.
Fabric care product. For soft upholstery, door upholstery and interior. Reliably removes dust and dirt. Thanks to this, the colors of the upholstery are refreshed. In addition, many products remove poorly removed stains.
Glass cleaner (also as a foaming cleaner). Suitable for all glass surfaces, it dissolves even stubborn dirt such as insect remains, nicotine, plastic fumes and oil deposits.
Rubber care product (with silicone content). For door, window and trunk seals as well as floor mats. Provides elasticity to rubber, prevents hardening at low temperatures, refreshes paints.
Aerosol against fogging of glasses. Preserves glass after cleaning for several days (depending on the weather). After being applied to glass, the aerosol forms a foam coating on it for a short time, which can be wiped off with dry soft paper. Windshield wipes and window sponges are just a handy tool.
Smoking in the car?
On this topic, we will not speak for or against. However, even apart from the fact that tests have established a high risk of accidents from smoking while driving, it should be warned that cigarette smoke in the passenger compartment of a car creates a dangerous concentration of poisons. Passive smoking increases the risk of bronchitis, asthma and allergies in children.
The nicotine coating on the windshield impairs visibility, especially at night and when the sun is low on the horizon. Glass cleaner and a rag can help in this case, but air fresheners will not bring much benefit. Febreze, Rauch-frei-Spray and Smoke-Ex, which are sold at gas station stores, are good against the bad smell that accumulates in upholstery. If the car has been smoked a lot, it is recommended to treat it with ozone neutralizer before selling the car, however, this procedure will last two days and will cost you 100 euros.
By the way, if the car has air conditioning, then when the air conditioner is in air circulation mode, it is better not to smoke. The smoke that is sucked in from the passenger compartment is deposited on the evaporator and causes a persistent smell.
Interior cleaning
1. Clean up your car. Empty and clean ashtrays.
2. Fold the mats in and take them out. Shake and knock out the mats, vacuum if necessary.
3. Wipe rubber mats. Attention, the underside of the mats in the car does not dry well. A damp rug can cause bad odors and mildew stains on fabric upholstery. Therefore, the drying time must be taken into account.
4. Remove large dirt in the cabin with a vacuum cleaner. For soft fabric upholstery, use the fixed nozzles, and for hard plastic surfaces, use the brush nozzles. For smooth rubber upholstery, mop the floor with a damp cloth.
5. Clean the seat upholstery with a brush or vacuum cleaner, wipe off dust from other plastic surfaces. The heater fan drives dust, first of all, into the corners - here a brush will serve you well.
6. Brush (without water) seat belts. If heavily soiled, wash belts with mild soapy water. Do not clean the belts with chemical cleaners, as these agents can destroy the fabric. The belts must also not be exposed to caustic liquids.
7. With a damp chamois, clean the plastic parts, lamp covers, molded matte black parts and instrument panel. For general cleaning, never use petrol or other solvents! There may be stains on the plastic that cannot be removed. Use plastic care products. Spray the surfaces, then rinse with clean water and wipe with a cloth. Cabin spray can be recommended, as it smells good and is antistatic.
Roof interior cleaning
8. The inner surface of the roof - a shaped part, which is usually upholstered with fabric, should be cleaned only if it is heavily soiled, in no case should it be moistened. Spray the surface of the roof with a fabric care product, then wipe it with a sponge and terry cloth.
9. If necessary, repeat the treatment. Attention: if you limit yourself to cleaning dirty areas, then because of this, ugly spots may appear, so you should always clean the entire surface of the roof.
10. Treat the upholstery of the seats, as well as the fabric inserts in the side parts and the inner lining, with foam for cleaning the upholstery. For cleaning leather seats, only special leather care products can be used, these products also ensure the elasticity and flexibility of the seams. While the upholstery is still damp with the cleaning agent, vacuuming it thoroughly is the best way to get dirt off the upholstery.
11. Spray door seals with silicone rubber cleaner, sealing and sliding surfaces can also be dusted with talc. In addition, this avoids creaking and crackling when closing the doors. By the way, these noises can also be eliminated by applying a greasy soap to the corresponding surfaces.
12. Clean the inside of the windows with damp chamois leather or a clean, soft cloth. If heavily soiled, treat the glass with ethyl or ammonia and warm water, you can also use a special glass cleaner. Then polish the glass with dry crepe paper.
The upholstery cleaner removes dirt, dust and fresh stains. Apply the foam to the surface to be cleaned and rub it with a damp sponge. Do not rub too hard, otherwise the dirt particles will again fall into the fabric. You can also use foam for cleaning carpets.
It is necessary to inspect the condition of the rubber door seals not only when the doors are already frozen in winter. Regulatory maintenance with silicone extends seal life. Replacing such seals can be quite expensive.
