Front wheel brake lining: wear limit a is 7 mm
Rear wheel brake lining: wear limit a is 7 mm
1. External brake pads can be inspected without removing the wheels. To do this, you need a flashlight, the lining is visible through the hole. The inner lining can only be seen with a mirror. If in doubt, remove the wheel for easier access to the lining.
2. A coin is suitable as a measure. Hold it between the brake disc and brake pad. If the thickness of the lining is equal to the thickness of the coin, it's time to change it.
Brake pedal and brake lining
The free play of the brake pedal should be no more than a third of the total travel. If the pedal can be pressed below (check by hand), check the brake discs immediately - they are probably badly worn or stuck. The brake caliper may have rusted.
However, checking the brake pedal does not replace checking the brake linings: when braking, the piston of the brake cylinder moves the worn lining so that after releasing the pedal it always assumes the same basic position relative to the brake disc. Thus, the pedal travel remains almost the same until the pads are worn to a minimum thickness. If the pedal travel at «rocking» decreases, air may have entered the system. In this case, it is necessary to remove the air and find the cause.
