2. It is possible that after some time the performance of the engine will deteriorate due to insufficient regular maintenance. Most likely, this can happen when purchasing a car that has been serviced irregularly. In this case, you need to perform additional procedures beyond the schedule.
3. If you suspect that the engine is worn, perform a compression test (see relevant part of chapters 2A or 2B), which will provide reliable information about the state of its main components. Such a check will help to draw a conclusion about the main amount of work required. If the compression test reveals significant wear, the routine maintenance described in this chapter will not improve engine performance and may be a waste of time and money until then. until the engine is overhauled.
4. To improve the performance of the engine in case of insufficiently efficient operation, the following sequence of operations is recommended:
Primary cycle
- A) Clean, inspect and test the battery ("Weekly checks").
- b) Check for any engine related leaks ("Weekly checks").
- V) Check the condition and tension of the accessory drive belt (paragraphs 5 and 30).
- G) Replace spark plugs (paragraph 26).
- d) Check the condition of the ignition system components (chapter 5b).
- e) Check the condition of the air filter, replace if necessary (paragraph 25).
- and) Check fuel filter (paragraph 20).
- h) Check the condition of all hoses for leaks (paragraph 13).
If all the above operations have not been effective, perform the following additional operations:
Secondary cycle
In addition to the items in the primary cycle, perform the following procedures:
- A) Check the battery charging system (chapter 5A)
- b) Check the condition of the ignition system (chapter 5B).
- V) Check the power system (chapter 4A).
- G) Replace high voltage wires (chapter 5B).
