- Brake system (Bremsanlage). This means that when checking the condition of the brake system, it was found that the brake fluid level is low and the fluid needs to be topped up, as well as checking the tightness of the system.
- Engine oil pressure (Motoruldruck). Oil pressure at idle speed below 0.3 bar or above 2100 rpm engine oil pressure respectively 0.9 bar (diesel engines), 1.8 bar (four- and five-cylinder engines) or 2.5 bar (six-cylinder engines) is not achieved.
- Coolant (Kbhlmittel). The coolant temperature is over 120°C or the coolant operating temperature is not reached or the coolant level is low.
In addition to the appearance of prohibitory inscriptions on the instrument panel, an audible signal is heard. Deny messages take precedence. If a prohibition line is displayed, the warning signal will not light up until the cause of the prohibition inscription is eliminated.
Warning labels are displayed in yellow and are accompanied by a single sound signal. Warning signals are:
- Stop signal (Bremslicht). This inscription lights up immediately when the ignition is turned on and warns the driver to check the brake lights. If the brake light bulbs are in order, then when you press the brake pedal, it goes out.
- Lighting (Beleuchtung). The control unit is not able to perform a lighting test in automatic mode and therefore such an inscription reminds the driver to turn on the dipped beam. Only with the dipped beam switched on, the dipped beam headlamps and rear lamps are checked. However, if the dipped beam and taillight bulbs are burned out, then the control unit, for technical reasons, is not able to simultaneously issue two messages. Checking the functioning of the lighting is carried out by the corresponding sensors for the condition of the car's lighting bulbs.
- Battery (Batterie). The battery symbol lights up when the battery voltage does not reach the nominal values of 10.6-15.6 V.
- windshield washer (Scheibenwaschanlage). This inscription reminds the driver to add windshield washer fluid.
- gas tank (Tank). The refueling stand symbol lights up when there is 12 liters of fuel left in the tank.
If a situation arises when the driver needs to be warned about the need to perform certain operations on several systems at once, the corresponding symbols are displayed when the ignition is turned on, replacing each other.
Inscription «OK» appears after switching on the ignition and after pressing the brake pedal, if the inscription has gone out at the same time «Stop signal». Inscription «OK» indicates that the check of the functioning of the vehicle systems has been completed and no defects have been found. After a while, this inscription goes out.
Attention! When installing a socket for a trailer hitch on vehicles equipped with a diagnostic unit for the functioning of systems, it must be taken into account that the power wire for the rear light bulbs must be connected before the sensor that controls these bulbs. This device is located in the left rear of the trunk. If the socket is powered from one of the rear lights, then the diagnostic unit will report a defect in the rear light bulb.
A car enthusiast can only partially check the control unit for the functioning of the main systems of a car. If the unit fails, all sensors are checked first. If they are normal, then the unit itself is faulty. Checking the sensors is carried out in the same way as on cars with conventional warning lights. The washer fluid reserve control sensor in the washer reservoir, which is installed only when the vehicle is equipped with a control unit, is checked as follows.
1. Disconnect the sensor plug if a corresponding message appears and there is a sufficient volume of washing liquid in the reservoir. If the warning message goes out, then the sensor is defective (see illustration).
Checking the sensors for the condition of the car's lighting bulbs must be entrusted to the workshop. The sensor for the condition of the lighting bulbs on the front is located on the additional relay block on the left under the instrument panel, and the rear lights are located on the left side of the trunk (see illustration 14.0).
Checking the operation of the display of the diagnostic unit for the functioning of the main vehicle systems
2. Press the button in the lower left part of the instrument panel with the ignition on and standing (or a moving vehicle at a speed not exceeding 5 km/h). All characters in turn should be highlighted on the display if the display is in order.
Attention! If the prohibition text is on on the display, it is not possible to check the operation of the display.
Additional functions of the diagnostic unit
- The signal of exceeding the set speed. If the driver entered into the memory of the block the speed with which he was moving at the time of entering into the memory, then, until this data is deleted from the memory, the block will remind of this every time it is significantly exceeded by a corresponding message and an acoustic signal. Entering the desired speed into the memory is carried out by pressing the left button on the instrument panel. This record is saved until the ignition is turned off or can be replaced by another one. Deleting an entry is done by the same button. To do this, it must be held down for about one second.
- Displays the frequency of the received radio station. If the display is not occupied by the messages of the diagnostic unit for the operation of the main systems of the car, then if the radio is equipped accordingly, the display shows the frequency to which the radio is currently tuned. Additionally, information about stereo reception or about listening to recordings on a cassette may appear. When receiving RDS radio stations reporting the situation on the roads, the corresponding symbol appears on the display. The name of the radio station can be read on the radio display.
