Remove the front pillar.

To remove the shock absorber, you need to compress the coil spring. VAG stations use a special device for this.

Caution: Never release the shock absorber unless the spring is compressed.

Caution: If the clamps of the device are inserted into the coils of the spring, be careful to ensure that they are securely clamped and that the clamps cannot slip off the spring.

If the shock absorber insert in the front strut is rusted, knock out the insert using a wrench and hammer.

Installation

Attention: Springs of different groups are produced. Use springs only with the same color markings.

Insert new shock absorbers. If an old shock absorber is installed, it should be checked.

Assemble the shock absorber according to Fig. 40-763.

Compress the coil spring with the device and insert it into the shock absorber strut. Make sure that the end of the spring is correctly positioned in the lower plate.

Tighten the spline nut to 50 Nm. Use the VAG 3078 or HAZET 2593-22 tool for this. Hold the piston rod from turning with a key, such as the HAZET 2110-7

Slowly release the spring.

Install the shock absorber strut.
