Withdrawal
Loosen wheel bolts. Raise the rear of the car. Remove wheels.
Attention: If you plan to use the old pads again, they should be marked when removing them. It is unacceptable to swap the inner and outer pads, as well as the pads of the right and left wheels. Such a replacement can lead to uneven braking. Be sure to use original pads from VW / AUDI. It is imperative to replace all front pads at the same time, even if only one of the pads has reached the wear limit.
Remove both caps.
Unscrew both guide bolts with a SW7 bar wrench, but do not remove from the rubber bushings.
Pull the caliper out by hand.
Then turn the brake caliper down and lock. Hang the piston housing on the wire. Do not loosen the brake hose, otherwise you will have to bleed the system.
Take out the brake pads.
Installation
Attention: Do not press the brake pedal when the pads are removed, otherwise the pistons will come out of the housing.
Clean the guide surfaces and the pad seating in the body shaft with a suitable soft metal brush or clean with a cloth soaked in alcohol. Do not use any solvents containing mineral oils or sharp instruments.
Before installing the pads, check with your fingers for grooves on the brake disc. If necessary, disc brakes can be turned (workshop work), if they are thick enough.
Measure the thickness of the brake discs.
Check the piston boot for breaks. Replace a damaged boot immediately, as penetrating dirt will quickly lead to loss of tightness of the caliper. This requires disassembly of the caliper (workshop work).
Check the fit of the heat shield in the piston.
Drown the piston with a special return tool. This can also be done with a strong wooden rod (hammer handle), but at the same time paying special attention to ensure that the piston is not warped and the dust boot is not damaged.
Attention: When the piston is depressed, the brake fluid is squeezed out of the brake cylinders into the reservoir. Monitor the fluid level in the reservoir, if necessary suck out the brake fluid.
When suctioning, use a plastic bottle, which should only be used for brake fluid. Do not use drink bottles! Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be sucked out through a hose by mouth. Apply suction. After replacing the pads, the brake fluid level in the reservoir should not exceed the MAX mark, as the fluid expands when heated. Leaking brake fluid flows onto the brake master cylinder, destroying paint and causing corrosion.
Insert both pads into the brake housing. At the same time, make sure that the lower springs are straight up and parallel to the upper edge of the brake linings.
Screw on piston housing with both guide bolts to 25 Nm.
Attention: There are 4 self-locking mounting bolts in the repair kit, Teves brakes do not need them.
Put on the caps of the guide bolts.
Make a basic rear brake adjustment.
Screw on the wheel, lower the vehicle, tighten the bolts crosswise to 110 Nm.
Check the fluid level in the reservoir and, if necessary, top up to the MAX mark.
