Note: A tachometer and CO meter are required for fine adjustment.
1. Adjustment must be made: with a serviceable air filter, with a properly adjusted accelerator cable and with the engine warmed up to operating temperature. On models with automatic transmission, the lever must be in the 'P' position.
2. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose from the valve cover and plug it.
3. Turn off all electrical consumers. The radiator fan should not run during the adjustment. Make sure the choke control opens fully.
4. Connect a tachometer and an exhaust gas analyzer to the engine according to the manufacturers instructions. On engines with a catalytic converter, connect a CO analyzer to the measuring tube in the engine compartment. Make sure the hose is well connected.
5. Start the engine at idling speed and measure the idling speed and CO content, compare them with the data in Specifications.
6. If necessary, remove the plugs (photo) and adjust the screws shown in Fig. 3.3 or 3.4.
7. Connect the crankcase ventilation hose. If the CO content is now increasing, do not adjust as this is caused by fuel and oil mixing in the crankcase. To bring the CO content back to normal, you need to drive the car at high speed or change the oil.
8. Turn off the engine, disconnect the exhaust gas analyzer and tachometer.
