Note: A tachometer and CO meter are required for precise adjustment.
1. The adjustment must be made: with a working air filter, with the accelerator cable correctly adjusted and with the engine warmed up to operating temperature. On models with automatic transmission, the lever must be set to the 'P' position.
2. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose from the valve cover and plug it.
3. Turn off all electrical consumers. The radiator fan should not operate during the adjustment. Make sure the air damper control is fully open.
4. Connect the tachometer and exhaust gas analyzer to the engine according to the manufacturers instructions. On engines with a catalytic converter, connect the CO analyzer to the measuring tube in the engine compartment. Make sure the tube is connected properly.
5. Start the engine at idle speed and measure the idle speed and CO content, compare them with the data in Specifications.
6. If necessary, remove the plugs (photo) and adjust the screws shown in Fig. 3.3 or 3.4 one by one.

7. Connect the crankcase ventilation hose. If the CO content now increases, do not make adjustments, as this is caused by fuel and oil mixing in the crankcase. To bring the CO content to normal, drive the car at high speed or change the oil.
8. Turn off the engine, disconnect the exhaust gas analyzer and tachometer.
