2. Using a socket wrench, loosen the bolts and remove the suction pipe from the oil pump. Remove the O-ring.
3. Loosen and remove the large oil pump mounting bolts, then remove the pump from the block.
4. Unscrew the two bolts and lift the cover. Note that the cover contains a pressure relief valve.
5. Clean the parts and check their condition.
6. Using a feeler gauge as shown (photo), check the clearance between the gears and compare it with the data in the Specifications. Similarly, check the lateral clearance of the gears using the edge of a ruler on the surface of the pump (photo). If the clearance is outside the specified limits, the pump must be replaced, otherwise - install the cover and tighten the bolts (photo).

7. Fill the pump with oil by immersing it in the oil and turning the drive shaft.
8. Clean the mating surfaces, then position the oil pump against the block, insert the mounting bolts and tighten them to the specified tightening torque Specification.
9. Position the new O-ring on the end of the suction tube. Install the tube onto the oil pump, insert the bolts and tighten them to the specified torque Specification.
10. Install the tray as described in Chapter 16.
