3.0 TDI models
1. The details of the installation of the power steering pump and power steering fluid lines are shown in the illustration.
18.1. Power steering pump and fluid line installation details for V6 TDI models:
1 - Steering mechanism;
2, 19, 36 - Holder;
3 - Clamp;
4, 14, 20, 28, 32 - Bolt, 9 Nm;
5 - Suction hose;
6 - Spring clamp;
7 - Power steering pump, on 1st generation engines without SCR;
8 - Bolt;
9 - Gasket, subject to replacement;
10 - Hollow bolt, 35 Nm;
11 - Bracket;
12 - Bolt M6 (9 Nm) or M8 (22 Nm);
13 - Power steering pump, on 1st generation engines with SCR and on 2nd generation engines;
15 - Pressure line, on 1st generation engines with SCR and on 2nd generation engines;
16, 37 - Sealing ring, subject to replacement;
17 - Pressure line, on 1st generation engines without SCR;
18, 22 - Bracket;
21 - Bolt, 8 Nm;
23 - Power steering fluid return line from the cooler to the reservoir;
24 - Cover with dipstick;
25 - Reservoir;
26 - Tank bracket;
27 - Pressure line, 32 Nm;
29 - Return line, 32 Nm;
30 - Retainer;
31 - Clamp. Must be replaced;
33, 34 - Bracket with washer and rivet for fastening the power steering fluid cooler to the condenser;
35 - Power steering fluid cooler.
Power steering pump repair is not provided. The new pump is supplied unfilled, so before installation it should be filled with power steering fluid by turning it by hand.
2. The power steering pump is mounted on an auxiliary bracket (see illustrations) and is removed after removing the wiring belt (see Chapter 2).

1 - Power steering pump;
2 - Pulley;
3, 5, 6 - Bolt, 23 Nm;
4 - Bracket;
7 - Hollow bolt, 35 Nm;
8 - Gaskets, subject to replacement;
9 - Pressure line;
10 - Suction hose;
11 - Mark on hose 10 must match mark 13;
12 - Spring clamp;
13 - Mark on the power steering pump.
18.2b. Power steering pump mounting parts on 3.0 TDI engines of the 1st generation with SCR and on 3.0 TDI engines of the 2nd generation:
1 - Power steering pump;
2, 5, 7 - Bolt, 23 Nm;
3 - Pulley;
4 - Bracket;
6 - Bushing;
8 - Bolt, 9 Nm;
9 - Pressure line;
10 - Gasket, subject to replacement;
11 - Suction hose;
12 - The mark on hose 11 must match the "X" mark on the power steering pump;
13 - Spring clamp.

7 - Reservoir;
10 - Tank bracket;
11 - Return line holder;
12 - Return line;
13 - Retainer, 3 pcs.;
14 - Holder in the subframe;
15 - Return line, 32 Nm;
17 - Power steering fluid cooler;
18, 19 - Bracket with washer and rivet for fastening the power steering fluid cooler to the condenser;
20 - Steering mechanism;
21 - Tie;
23 - Pressure line, 32 Nm;
24 - Hollow bolt, 35 Nm;
25 - Gasket, subject to replacement;
26 - Power steering pump;
27, 29 - Sealing ring, must be replaced.
Power steering pump repair is not provided. The new pump is supplied unfilled, so before installation it should be filled with power steering fluid by turning it by hand.
4. The power steering pump is mounted at the junction of the engine with the automatic transmission and is driven by a separate shaft from the auxiliary drive mechanism (see Chapter 2).
18.4. Power steering pump mounting parts on 4.2 TDI engines:
1 - Power steering pump;
2 - Bolt for fastening the power steering pump, engine and automatic transmission, 85 Nm;
3 - Power steering pump drive shaft, replaced when replacing the pump;
4, 5, 9 - O-ring, subject to replacement;
6 - Bolt, 22 Nm;
7, 10, 12 - Bolt, 9 Nm;
8 - Suction hose;
11 - Pressure line;
13 - Hollow bolt, 35 Nm;
14 - Gasket, subject to replacement.
