1. The steering gear installation details are shown in the illustration.

1 - Bolt, 10 Nm;
2 - Thermal protection shield of the boot;
3 - Steering column joint heat shield;
4 - Steering column;
5 - Bolt, to be replaced, 35 Nm, then tighten to an angle of 90°;
6 - Steering gear, options available;
7 - Subframe;
8 - Bolt, must be replaced;
9 - Self-locking nut, replaceable, 90 Nm, then tighten to an angle of 90°;
10 - Self-locking nut, replaceable, 90 Nm;
11 - Steering knuckle;
12 - Power steering pressure line;
13 - Bolt, 9 Nm;
14 - Power steering return hose;
15 - Union nut, 32 Nm;
16 - Sealing ring, must be replaced.


The steering gear is removed and installed together with the rods.

2. Clamp the suction and return hoses at the power steering fluid reservoir with No. 3094 clamps with a diameter of 25 mm (see illustration 3.13).

Note: Do not pinch the hose directly at the non-return valve located in the return line.


3. Remove the sound insulation panels under the engine compartment (see Section 19 of Chapter 1) and front wheels.

4. Loosen the nut and separate the steering rod end from the steering knuckle (see Figure 7.8 in Chapter 7).



5. Disconnect the connector (1 in the illustration) solenoid valve "N119" power steering, remove the coolant hose holder (2) from the return line and set the coolant hoses aside.

6. Unscrew the two bolts and remove the steering gear heat shield (And in illustration 4.43 of Chapter 2). Carefully remove the bolt (B) and the joint from the steering gear.

7. Remove the bracket (1 in illustration 3.27 Chapter 7) power steering fluid lines, disconnect the supply and return lines (2) from the steering gear.

9. Remove the steering gear bolts (see illustration).

10. Install the T10031 support on the VAG1383A transmission jack and place a wooden block on it (2 in the illustration).

Support the rear of the subframe near the lower control arm (1). Remove the rear subframe mounting bolts and lower the subframe so that it is still supported by the jack.

11. Pull the steering gear out of the supports, pull it to the right in the direction of the arrow (1 in the illustration).

12. At the same time, conduct the power steering solenoid valve (1 in the illustration) behind the coolant hoses (2), turn the steering gear forward and tilt the left rod down.

Remove the steering gear to the left and down in the direction of the arrow (2 in illustration 15.11).

13. Installation is carried out in reverse order. Finally, bleed the power steering system, check the wheel alignment, and apply the basic settings to the steering angle sensor.
