The initial conditions for correct adjustment are the following: the control elements and transmission of the engagement mechanism are in perfect condition, the shift mechanism has a smooth movement, the gearbox, clutch and clutch drive must be in perfect condition, the gearbox must be in the idle position. Remove the gear shift knob together with the cover. Remove the front ashtray "1". Remove the sound insulation above the gear shift drive.

Set the gearshift lever as follows. Center the shift lever at the bottom in the middle of the shift lever bushing. The distance from the gearbox lever bushing to the gearbox lever at the bottom "arrow" should be the same in all places.

Check the push rod adjustment, dimension "X". Mandatory value: dimension "x" = 25 mm. If this is not the case, adjust dimension "x" as follows. Unscrew the "arrow" bolt of the gear shift fork rod. The gearshift lever bushing should move easily back and forth on the sliding element. Adjust the "x" dimension by moving the gearshift lever bushing. Tighten the shift fork rod bolt "arrow" in this position.

Loosen the shift rod bolt. The shift fork rod/shift drive connection should move easily.

Tighten the shift rod bolt. The position of the gearshift lever should not change when tightening the bolt. Check the gearshift lever adjustment. Start the engine. Depress the clutch pedal. Shift through all gear shift lines several times. Engage the reverse gear lock (move the gearshift lever down) and set the gearshift lever all the way to the left on the reverse gear track. Move the gearshift lever forward to the reverse gear position. In this case, it is prohibited to apply lateral force to the lever to the right or left. Check that the reverse gear is actually engaged and not 1st gear. If 1st gear is engaged instead of reverse, the gearshift lever is moved too far to the left. Adjust the setting. Disengage reverse gear. Engage 2nd gear by applying increased force to the left side of the gear shift lever. If the lever sticks when you engage 2nd gear, it means it is too far to the right. Adjust the setting. Reverse gear should only be engaged after the reverse lock has been released. The shift lever should automatically return from the reverse gear slot to the 3rd/4th gear slot. If the lever catches when you re-engage the gear, repeat the adjustment of the gear shift mechanism. Install soundproofing. Install the front ashtray. Install the shift knob together with the boot.
