BLB and BNA engines (metal glow plugs)
1. Turn off the ignition and remove the cylinder head cover (see Chapter 2).
2. Disconnect the glow plug connectors and remove the glow plugs using the T50001 head (see illustration).
6.2. Removing the glow plug
3. Installation is performed in the reverse order of component dismantling. Tighten the spark plugs with a force of 8-11 Nm.
Engines BRD, BRE, BRF, BVA, BVF and BVG (ceramic glow plugs)
Note: NGK ceramic glow plugs can be identified by their white or silver colour markings. Do not subject the glow plugs to impacts, do not drop the glow plugs even from a height of 2 cm.
4. Preheat the glow plugs using the function "Final control diagnosis" diagnostic tool VAS5051.
5. Remove the cylinder head cover (see Chapter 2).
6. Disconnect the glow plug wiring connector and carefully pull it off - the force required for this should not exceed 20 Nm. If the glow plug cannot be pulled off with a force of up to 20 Nm, treat it with a fastener loosening agent (for example, WD-40). If after this the spark plug cannot be moved with a force of up to 20 Nm, unscrew it with the cylinder head removed (see Chapter 2).
6. After loosening the glow plug, place the end of a suitable piece of hose on it, unscrew the glow plug by this hose and pull it in, trying not to allow it to come into contact with other parts of the engine.
7. Clean the cylinder head from carbon deposits through the threaded hole of the glow plug. Make sure that the thread of the glow plug and its installation hole are clean.
8. Make sure the heating rod is not broken. If the rod is broken, replace the spark plug and remove the remains of the rod from the combustion chamber.
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling the components.
10. After installation, before starting the engine for the first time, check the glow plug resistance: it should be no more than 1 Ohm.
