Removal and installation parking brake cables (Audi A4 B7)

1. Remove the console between the front seats (see Chapter 11).

2. Remove the wheels.

3. Remove the bottom panel on the rear right and rear left sides and unhook the parking brake cables.

4. Remove the bottom panel on the left side by unscrewing 8 bolts.

5. Remove the inner bottom panel on the exhaust pipe, separate the rear part of the exhaust pipe.

6. Pull out the lock (1 in the illustration) and unhook the parking brake cables from the caliper. Be careful not to damage the rubber seals on the cables.

7. Unhook the brake pipe (2 in the illustration) from the holder (3).

8. Unhook the cables (1 in the illustration) parking brake from the fuel tank (2).

9. Unhook the cables (3 in the illustration) parking brake from the holder (1). If new cables are to be installed, the parking brake lever must be removed and returned to its original position (see Section 4).

10. Insert the cables into the lever assembly until they are fully locked (see illustration). At the point where the cables intersect, cable (1) must pass under cable (2).

11. Secure the cables to the above-mentioned fasteners, bottom and tank. The cable should be located on the fastener in the area between the rings (4 in illustration 3.9).

12. Secure the cables to the caliper and insert the retainer (1 in illustration 3.6).

13. Make sure that the centering rings (1 in the illustration) on the cable are located inside the clamps on the holders. Tighten the bolts (2) with a force of 25 Nm.

14. Install the removed covers and console. Adjust the parking brake drive (see Section 5).

Note: The adjustment elements are located in front of the rear lower tie rods.


15. Remove the console between the front seats (see Chapter 11).

17. Separate the rear part of the exhaust pipe.

18. Remove the heat shield on the rear of the fuel tank and the rear tunnel heat shields (above and below the propeller shaft).

19. Pull out the lock (1 in illustration 3.6) and unhook the parking brake cables from the caliper. Be careful not to damage the rubber seals on the cables.

22. Unhook the cables (1 in the illustration) from the holders (2 and 4). If new cables are to be installed, the parking brake lever should be removed and returned to its original position (see Section 4).

23. Fasten the cables to the compensator in the same way as in Illustration 3.6 (the cables do not cross).

24. The connection of the retainer on the holder should be located between the two rings (5 in illustration 3.22) and always face the side of the vehicle. Tighten the nuts (3) to 1.5 Nm and insert the cable into the support.

25. Secure the cables to the bottom and tank, insert them into the lever on the caliper and secure with a clamp (see illustration 3.6).

26. Centering rings (1 in illustration 3.20) must be located inside the clamps on the holder. Tighten the bolt (2) with a force of 25 Nm.

27. Install the removed covers and console. Adjust the parking brake drive (see Section 5).
