1. The car should idle on a road with a slight incline. Tighten the handbrake lever to the first locking groove - the brake should begin to act (the car must not accelerate).
2. Tighten the lever further. When the lever is in the third or at least the fourth groove, the rear wheels should be blocked.
3. A large free play of the lever, in principle, can hardly occur due to worn linings, because the gap is automatically compensated by the adjusting device. Despite this, it is still necessary to check the rear brake pads. Another reason: if you constantly apply the handbrake hard when parking, then a large free play of the lever may mean that the cables have stretched or there is a gap in the transmission parts between the handbrake and the automatic adjusting device.
