Note: Before starting the procedure, read the warning in paragraph 1.
Caution: The following procedure only describes relieving system pressure, not removing fuel from the system. Take appropriate precautions before disconnecting system components.
1. The system discussed in this paragraph contains an electric fuel pump submerged in the fuel tank, a fuel filter, fuel injectors, a pressure regulator and metal pipes and hoses connecting all components to each other. This system contains fuel that is under pressure when the engine is running or the ignition is on. The pressure remains in the system for some time after the ignition is turned off and must be brought under control if any components are to be disconnected for service
2. Disconnect the wire from the battery "masses", as described in chapter 5A.
3. Open the fuel filler door. Temporarily remove the cap to relieve any pressure in the tank. Put the cap on the neck.
4. If provided, remove the engine top cover.
5. Lay a rag under the connection of the supply fuel line to the fuel rail on the intake manifold, wrap the connection with rags.
6. Use two wrenches to loosen the connection nut. to relieve pressure. When working with the system, leave a rag around the open connection.
7. When finished, tighten the line connection with two open end wrenches.
