Clutch slipping?
1. Set the hand brake, start the engine.
2. Put in 3rd gear, slowly engage the clutch and give gas.
3. With a flawless handbrake, the engine should stall.
4. If the engine is running, the clutch is faulty.
Is the clutch disengaging correctly?
If the transmission shifts poorly when the engine is warm, or the gearshift is accompanied by scraping or rattling sounds, then the clutch is probably not disengaging correctly. Very rarely this effect is due to a faulty gearbox. To be sure, we will carry out a test in 1st gear or reverse gear:
1. Start the engine at idle.
2. Fully depress the clutch pedal, wait approximately three seconds, then attempt to engage 1st gear or reverse.
3. If the gear turns on with difficulty or a rattle is heard, then this means that the clutch is not disengaged cleanly, that is, the driven disk does not rotate quite freely.
4. Check the clutch hydraulic system and bleed it.
5. Check again.
6. Information about other causes of malfunctions can be found in the section Help with malfunctions at the end of the chapter.
