Front anti-roll bar — removal and installation (Audi 80 B3)

1. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the car and support it on axle stands. Remove the front wheels.

2. Unscrew the bolts, remove the front mounting clamp (photo). On some models, a stand and nut may be fitted instead of the lower bolt.



3. Remove the nuts or bolts securing the side mounts to the lower suspension arms and remove the anti-roll bar from under the vehicle.

4. Remove the rubber cushions, washers and gaskets, noting their positions.

5. On models with power steering, disconnect the side links by unscrewing the nuts. Remove the rubber cushions, washers and gaskets.

6. Check the condition of the rubber bushings and replace them if necessary. It is useful to sprinkle the rubber with talc.

7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Make sure that the anti-roll bar is correctly oriented, offset from the lower suspension arm. Do not fully tighten the anti-roll bar mounts until the full weight of the car is placed on the wheels.
