Checking and adjusting the power steering pump drive belt
1. Examine the entire length of the drive belt for fraying, wear, or cracks.
2. Check that the drive belt deviates approximately 10.0 mm when pressing with your thumb at a point in the middle between the two pulleys.
3. If necessary, replace and/or adjust the drive belt as described in Chapter 21.
Checking the tie rod ends
4. Apply the handbrake, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it on axle stands.
5. With the steering column unlocked, move each front wheel by hand and check for excessive play in the tie rod ends. There should be no lateral movement in the ball joint.
6. Check up a condition of an antidust rubber cap of a tip of steering draft.
7. If necessary, replace the tie rod end as described in Chapter 14.
Checking the lower ball joints of the front suspension
8. Apply the handbrake, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it on axle stands.
9. Using the lever, try to move the wheel bearing housing sideways and up from the lower control arm while watching the ball joint. There should be no visible movement.
10. Check both ball joints, replace as needed.
Tire check
11. Be guided Chapter 23. Initially installed tires have tread wear indicators that are exposed at 1.6mm.
12. Check and adjust tire pressures.
Power steering fluid level check
13. Set the front wheels straight ahead.
14. With the engine idling, check that the fluid level is at the maximum mark. Replenish if necessary. If frequent refueling is required, check for leaks in the system.
