Note: Do not adjust the seats or steering column while the vehicle is moving. After adjusting the seat, you should rock it slightly to make sure it is securely fixed.

Front seats and headrests

The controls for adjusting the front seat position are shown in Illustrations 4.1a-b. The switches' location, design, and functionality match the seat's design. The seat adjustment is carried out according to this logic by pressing or moving the corresponding switches or their corresponding edges.

4.1a. Front seat adjustment controls (with mechanical adjustment).

4.1a. Front seat adjustment controls (with mechanical adjustment).
1. - Adjusting the longitudinal position of the seat (pull the lever up).
2. - Adjusting the protrusion and height of the lumbar support (if available).
3. - Seat height adjustment (pull the lever up or down repeatedly).
4. - Backrest tilt adjustment (rotate).

4.1b. Front seat adjustment controls (with electrical adjustment).

4.1b. Front seat adjustment controls (with electrical adjustment).
A. - Seat position adjustment: forward/backward movement and height adjustment of the entire seat or only the front/back edge of its cushion.
B. - Backrest tilt adjustment.
C. - Adjustment of the protrusion and height of the lumbar support.
D. - Adjusting the length of the hip support (if available): lift the button, move the seat forward/backward and set the cushion to the desired position.

The electric seats also work when the ignition is off, so do not leave children unattended in the car.

In some configurations, if there is an electric seat adjustment with buttons (2 in illustration 6.1) you can program and then play back two different settings for the driver's seat, steering column and outside rearview mirrors. Additionally, when the vehicle is locked, the position parameters corresponding to the remote control being used are automatically programmed. When the vehicle is unlocked, the parameters programmed for the remote control being used are automatically reproduced.

To ensure comfortable lateral visibility, the driver can change the position of the front passenger seat via the menu "Car → Systeme → Sitzeinstellungen → Beifahrersitz → Komfort-Seitenansicht" mMI display. When this setting is selected, moving the driver's seat will also move the passenger seat, providing the best possible view. If installation is selected "Car → Systeme → Sitzein stellungen → Beifahrersitz → Sitzsymmetrie", when you adjust the driver's seat, the passenger seat will automatically adjust to the same position.

The design of car seats guarantees maximum comfort for the person sitting in them, while simultaneously providing conditions for the most effective functioning of seat belts and airbags. The choice of seat position also affects the safety of the person sitting in it. For example, if the front seat is moved too far forward, the risk of injury to the occupant when the airbag deploys increases, as does the risk of being thrown through the windshield in a frontal collision. Increasing the angle of the seatback will worsen the body's fixation with the seat belt - the more the seatback is tilted back, the higher the likelihood of the occupant's body sliding under the lap section of the belt in a strong frontal impact, and the more severe the injuries may be.

Adjust the front seat to the position that is as far away from the steering wheel/dashboard as possible while still allowing comfortable driving. The recommended distance from the chest to the front airbag cover is at least 25 cm. Adjust the backrest to a position close to vertical, with an inclination of no more than 30°.

Head restraints prevent injury to the cervical spine and head in the event of a rear-end collision. The headrest should be adjusted in height so that its top point is not lower than the eye level of the person sitting. The top point should not be below the eye level of the person sitting. For convenience, you can manually tilt the headrest forward or backward. To raise the headrest, simply pull it up. To lower the headrest, press the round button on its side and press the headrest into the backrest. To remove the headrest, lift it completely and press the button at the base (see illustration 4.2) and finally pull the headrest out of the seat.

Rear seats, their headrests and footrests

To improve visibility when there are no passengers in the outer rear seats, their headrests can be folded down by pulling the handle (see illustration 4.3).

4.3. Handle for folding the outer rear head restraints.

4.3. Handle for folding the outer rear head restraints.

To return the headrests to their original position, pull them up until they lock into place. The center rear seat headrest can be adjusted in height and removed. In this case, to lower and remove it, you need to press the button at the base (by analogy with illustration 4.2).

In some trim levels, the longitudinal position of the rear seats and the tilt of their backrests can be adjusted (see illustrations 4.4a-b). To access the third row of seats, the outboard seatbacks of the second row can be folded forward, and then the seats themselves can be moved forward. The third row seatbacks fold and rise in a similar manner.

Steering column

The steering column should be adjusted so that the steering wheel is at least 25 cm from the driver's chest. A position in which the steering wheel is in front of the driver's face is incorrect, as it reduces the protective functions of the driver's front airbag. The driver's arms were slightly bent when correctly positioned on the steering wheel.

Caution: Do not hold the steering wheel by the top point or by the spokes, otherwise you may injure your hands and head if the airbag deploys.

On models with mechanical adjustment, pull the lever down (see illustration 4.5a), set the steering column to the desired position and then lock it by returning the lever to its original position until it locks.

On models with electric steering column adjustment, press the switch to change the reach and tilt of the steering column (And in illustration 4.5b) in the appropriate direction.

4.5b. Steering column adjustment keys.

4.5b. Steering column adjustment keys.

Adjustment is possible even with the ignition off. To turn the easy entry feature on or off, press button (B). When the button is depressed, the easy entry feature is activated, meaning the steering column rises fully when the key is removed from the ignition. Once you enter the vehicle and turn on the ignition, the steering column returns to its original position.

Seat belts

Attention:
  • Do not fool the electronics by fastening the seat belt behind your back or inserting a plug into the seat belt buckle - this could result in additional injuries caused by the electronics operating the airbags as if the driver and front passenger were wearing seat belts.
  • Do not attach any pads or other objects to the seat belt straps.

All people in a moving vehicle must wear seat belts. It is not permitted to use one seat belt to secure more than one person.

All seat belts have a diagonal-lap design, which implies the presence of three anchor points, one of which is equipped with an inertial return device with automatic locking in case of jerks. Belts of this type do not require length adjustment. All seat belts are additionally equipped with tension limiters and emergency tensioners. The lap section of the belt should be positioned at hip level so that it covers the seated person's hip joint, as the strongest element of the human skeleton, and does not put pressure on the stomach. The shoulder section of the belt must pass through the center of the shoulder and must not be passed under the arm or placed around the neck. Make sure that the belt is not twisted.

To fasten the rear side seat belts, first insert the large buckle (1 in illustration 4.6) into the outer buckle (A), and then fasten the belt by inserting the small buckle (2) into the inner buckle (B). To retract the belt into the ceiling, unfasten its large buckle by inserting a key or screwdriver into the groove of its lock.

4.6. Fastening the rear side seat belt.

4.6. Fastening the rear side seat belt.

If necessary, the height of the upper anchor points of the front and side rear seat belts can be adjusted by moving the adjuster (In illustration 4.7), squeezing its clamps (1).

4.7. Adjusting the height of the upper seat belt anchor.

4.7. Adjusting the height of the upper seat belt anchor.

After adjustment, make sure the anchor is securely fixed. If you cannot ensure the correct position of the upper anchor by adjusting it, additionally adjust the seat height (see subsection above).

Remember that the seat belt is most effective when the seatback is in an upright position. Excessive backrest tilt increases the likelihood of the occupant slipping under the belt during an impact.

A buzzer and a corresponding indicator lamp in the instrument cluster serve as reminders that the front seat belts are not fastened (see Section 7).
