1. Checking the operation of the gear shift mechanism drive

In the "S", "O", "R" positions of the automatic transmission selector and in the "Tiptronic slot", the starter does not start. At a speed of over 5 km/h and when the automatic transmission selector is switched to the "N" position, the automatic transmission selector is not locked by the electromagnet. The selector may be in the 1st gear position. When the automatic transmission selector is switched to the "N" position at a speed of less than 2 km/h (the car is practically at a standstill), the selector lock solenoid should only operate after approximately 1 second. The selector lever should only be moved from the "N" position when the brake pedal is depressed.

Gear selector in position "P"

Pull the parking brake lever to engage the electromechanical parking brake. Do not press the brake pedal. To move to the "Ignition on" position, briefly press the key in the ignition switch. Do not press the brake pedal. The automatic transmission selector is locked and, as long as the locking button on the selector handle is pressed, it cannot be moved from the "P" position. The automatic transmission selector lock solenoid "N110" locks the selector: Press and hold the brake pedal. The automatic transmission selector lock solenoid "N110" releases the selector lock. It is now possible to set the selector to the drive position. With the locking button on the selector handle pressed, slowly shift the selector sequentially from "P" and further "R, N, D, S"; in this case, check that the indication of the position of the automatic transmission selector "Y6" in the instrument cluster corresponds to the actually selected gear.

The automatic transmission selector is in position "N" and the ignition is on

Do not press the brake pedal. After some time: the selector is locked and, despite the pressed locking button on the automatic transmission selector handle, it cannot be moved out of position "N". The automatic transmission selector lock solenoid "N110" locks the selector. Press the brake pedal. The automatic transmission selector lock solenoid "N110" releases the selector lock. It is possible to engage position "D".

Automatic transmission selector in position "O", ignition on

Move the automatic transmission selector to the "Tiptronic slot". The illuminated "O" symbol on the automatic transmission selector position indicator panel "Y26" should go out, and the "+" symbols should light up. The automatic transmission selector position indicator "Y6" on the instrument cluster should change from "D" to "M1" when the selector is moved to the "Tiptronic slot". If the specified values are not achieved, carry out Guided Fault Finding with a diagnostic tester. Adjust the gearbox selector cable. Check the locking button on the selector handle. Check the key lock in the ignition switch.

2. Checking the key lock in the ignition switch

Pull the parking brake lever to engage the electromechanical parking brake. Do not press the brake pedal. To move to the "Ignition on" position, briefly press the key in the ignition switch. Press and hold the brake pedal. The automatic transmission selector can only be moved from position "P" if the locking button on the selector handle without a "lever" is pressed. Switch off the ignition. The ignition key must not be removed in any of the automatic transmission selector positions other than "P". Move the selector lever to position "P". Remove the ignition key. The ignition key must only be removed when the selector is in position "P". The selector cannot be moved from position "P" if the locking button and the foot brake pedal are pressed. If the ignition key removal lock is not performed as described, perform Guided Fault Finding with the diagnostic tester.

3. Check the locking system - vehicles with a keyless entry and locking system

To reach the "Ignition on" position, briefly press the access and power-on button "E408". Switch the selector not to the "P" position, but, for example, to the "N" position. Switch off the ignition. The instrument cluster should display a warning message. The car cannot be locked. Switch on the ignition and move the automatic transmission selector to the "P" position. Switch off the ignition. The car can be locked.

If the required values are not reached

Perform Guided Troubleshooting using a diagnostic tester. Adjust the gearbox selector cable. Check the locking button on the selector handle.

4. Checking the locking button on the gear selector handle

Check the smooth operation of the locking button: the locking button should be pressed without much effort; after releasing the button, it should return to its original position independently and completely. If the specified values are not achieved, check the correct installation of the selector handle. Check whether the selector lever is bent.

Checking operation: Ignition on. The locking button on the automatic transmission selector handle must be pressed for the following shifts; or, if the locking button is not pressed, the selector should not move to the specified position: "P" after "R" and press the brake pedal, "D" after "S", "N" after "R"; when stopping, after a long wait, additionally press the brake pedal, "R" after "P". If the specified values are not achieved, check the correct installation of the selector handle. Perform Guided Troubleshooting on the diagnostic complex and check the gearbox selector lock magnet "N110". Adjust the gearbox selector cable.
