The differential can be removed and installed without dismantling the shift mechanism, input shaft, output shaft, axle shaft/pinion, and gearbox cover. When replacing the final drive cover, the differential's tapered bearings must be adjusted for tension.
1. Bolt: 15 Nm, 45° turn;steel bolts (M8; length 25 mm); 3 pcs.
2. Left shaft with flange with support and ball bearing: check the tension of the bearing of the left shaft with flange.
3. Gearbox housing: can currently only be replaced together with the differential and pinion gear.
4. Lip seal for left shaft with flange.
5. Differential with driven bevel gear: The driven bevel gear cannot be separated from the differential; the differential bevel pinions cannot be replaced.
6. Sealing ring: always replaceable; lubricate with transmission oil.
7. Main gear cover.
8. Bolt: 20 Nm 90° turn;steel bolts (M8; length 38 mm); 10 pcs.
9. Retaining ring: always replaceable.
10. Right shaft with flange: press in using the "VW 295" mandrel.
11. Lip seal for right shaft with flange.
12. Retaining ring.
13. Ball bearing for left shaft with flange; check the tension of the left shaft bearing with flange.
14. Support bracket for left shaft with flange.
15. Left shaft with flange.
